FOX News Radio's new Houston home is 740 KTRH. The Friday overnight newscasts which were ABC Information are now the 5 minute Top of the Hour FOX News Radio newscasts.
It's sad to see an inferior product get pushed onto KTRH. ABC has so many more reporters than FNR and, unlike FNR, rarely uses TV Reporter audio for their stories. ABC also has better response to breaking news and access to more reporters and audio.
Also, during the 11pm news, the Traffic and Weather beds were the FOX News logoed beds many CC stations use.
We've lamented this on the board for years now, and it is absolutely tragic to see a storied station like KTRH get pushed down to the rest of the pack (locally and nationwide).
The station used to STAND OUT for it's local News, Sports and Weather coverage. Yes, KTRH was weak on the weekday talk (Gardenline, Home Improvement Hotline, Houston Hotline, and Consumer Watch with Steven Dean) with no strong issues-oriented host, but with all of the news and play-by-play the station had, the talk was almost unnecessary.
Now the station is basically your typical conservative news/talker. Nothing UNIQUELY HOUSTON on 740 anymore. What you basically get on 740 (Rush, Sean, Dennis Miller, limited/ no more longform news) is what you get on 820 WBAP in Dallas, 770 KKOB, 1200 WOAI, 1620 WTAW, 580 WHP, KTLK-FM, etc etc. I bet that by April 2008 the KTRH Morning News (which is still a longform newswheel) will be converted into the hybrid "First News" format used by the vast majority of News/Talk stations around the county.
