Fox News Talk

Fox News Talk started today on channel 168. Also, FNC is now an XM exclusive. Sirius replaced it with CNN headline News.
XM has 2 Fox News channels, Sirius has none.

Since they can't fill the schedule with their own shows all the time, "FOX News Talk" had at least one big hole to fill...2-5 PM ET, after Bill O'Reilly's "Radio Factor" show.

The occupant of that slot? Former KSFO/San Francisco, KFBK and KTKZ/Sacramento and KSRO/Santa Rosa host Spencer Hughes...who keeps his weekend show on WRKO/Boston.

And isn't that show XM exclusive?

It is. Spencer continues his separate Sunday afternoon show on WRKO/680 Boston.

There is a thread explaining the Sirius decision on the Sirius board. Suffice it to say they don't mind losing Fox because of their huge rate hike and demand they carry their talk radio channel.

What about the rumors of Martha Zoller, a radio talk sow host out of gainesville, ga.

Re: And One "FOX News Talk" Surprise

Sirius may no longer have Fox, which IMHO was a stupid move considering Fox beats all the other Cable news combined in ratings. But Hey, Sirius has Stern, arent we all impressed???? NOT

Umm, I think you meant "show". That's a particularly bad typo.

What about her? I did a search on your username, and you have four posts, all of them looking like blatant promotions for this host.

I find it hard to accept that you're not either Martha herself, or a member of her staff or the station's staff.

That having been said, I've heard the name, though Gainesville is a small market. As for Spencer, I know about him because (full disclosure) I worked directly with him at one of his previous over-air stops. I consider him to be a good friend, and am happy about his success.

Actually, lily and I are big fans of Martha and our paths have crossed professionally----we believe in more women in talk radio and Martha has accomplished a great deal from a small market, including being on the Talkers Top 100 list.

We believe in what she is doing an help her anytime we can. She's a consumate professional in a business that uses small things like whether someone makes a typo as a method of pretending to be superior.

There aren't enough women in this business and we will continue to support her and other professionals like her.

A note to make my viewpoint a little clearer here...there's not much love lost for Talkers here on this board, and I'd have to agree. I'm not trying to denigrate the effort Mr. Harrison and company have put into the magazine, but the thing seems to be mainly a "you scratch my back" effort for the talk radio industry.

I don't really attach a lot of significance to the list, either. It's a subjective list put together, if I remember right, by Mr. Harrison and the magazine's staff. And 100 hosts? That's a LOT in talk radio. There are more than 100 local and national hosts, of course, but I'd be more impressed if it were 50.

> There aren't enough women in this business and we will

Look, I'm supportive of your thoughts. I have long complained that there weren't a lot of women in "issues" talk radio, and that stations felt if they put Dr. Laura on, they had their staff female host. Thankfully, that's changing, on both sides of the political spectrum.

But...we're just suspicious here if someone is effusive with praise for a host that really doesn't have a major profile. Check out the Sports board, where we've deconstructed a message that would seem to come directly from the keyboard of KRCN/1060 Denver market sports talk host Dino Costa, trying to get some attention to himself.

If you appear to be disingenuous, prepare for the flames. If you're trying to create "buzz" for a host solely because you work with them or ARE them, that gets spotted pretty easily. I called foul on this one because the poster in question has 4 messages, every single one appearing to be an anonymous "promotion" for Ms. Zoller. If her content were more varied, she wouldn't have gotten the attention she did from me.

And in the case of FOX News Talk's Spencer Hughes, I've disclosed both here and on the Boston board that I'm a friend and former co-worker of his. If you and lily10 have ties to Ms. Zoller aside from being listeners and fans, it should be disclosed, IMHO.

Re: And One "FOX News Talk" Surprise

I have a question. Is Bill O'reilly's radio show no longer with West Wood 1? I am asking this because I noticed Sean Hannities radio show is not on 168.> Sirius may no longer have Fox, which IMHO was a stupid move
