Fox News' Tony Snow Dead at 53

Just saw him a couple months ago on HBO's Real Time--this is a real bummer [EDIT]
.

From Radio-Info's front page:

http://www.radio-info.com/news/

Most of the attention paid to Snow's career in both the media and government goes to his TV work with Fox and later CNN, and his notable role as the public voice of the recent Bush White House (he'd also been chief speech writer for Bush 41) - but Snow was a radio personality, as well. His work included hosting The Tony Snow Show for Fox News Radio, and doing fill-ins for Rush Limbaugh. His two-time battle with colon cancer ended with his death (Saturday morning, July 12), leaving behind his wife and three children. The much-liked Snow resigned from the White House press secretary job last September to see to the financial needs of his family, and become a commentator for CNN. Former Fox boss Roger Ailes calls Snow "a renaissance man."

[EDIT-baiting]

Back in 1988, I was producing a radio roundtable discussion show. We were always looking for journalists who were willing to talk openly about the news. Back then, most journalists felt it was a bit out of their area to take sides on issues. That was reserved for Op-Ed folks. So we often used Op-Ed writers and columnists.

One day, I called over to the Washington Times to see if they had a conservative commentator, and they suggested their new Assistant OpEd page editor, Tony Snow. Tony was young (and looked even younger) and new to DC at the time. I don't think he'd done much radio. Maybe only in college. This was long before Fox News was even on the air.

He came over to our studio, took part in the show, and was one of our regular fill-ins for several years. I always remember him as a nice guy, but also very smart and very quick. He held his own with some of the top columnists in Washington. Which is why he was so sought-after by TV, and why he had such a great career as a broadcaster.

RadioMoo:

Tony Snow and Tim Russert were great accomplished journalists who were very fair based to everyone. The sudden death of Tim Russert a month ago from a sudden heart attack and today's death of Tony Snow from the cancer he had for several years are sad tragic events. Regardless of your political views, your distasteful comments show a sense of ignorance, lack of intelligence, selfishness, and lack of compassion, and other qualities I cannot mention on this board.

I was sad about Mr. Russert. I am sad about Mr. Snow. Both were "Fair and Balanced", while still being liberal or conservative. [EDIT]

[EDIT-off topic]

I disagreed with Snow's politics, but I respected (if not occasionally enjoyed) his opinions and approach much more than that of other conservatives. The very few times I came across an episode of Fox News Sunday or one of his columns, he seemed to want to opt for reason instead of simply partisan blather.

His death is a loss to those that best knew of his likability outside of politics and TV.

Let me add my agreement to what has been stated.

I only heard his show a time or two, but he sounded good and didn't seem like he wanted to cause needless arguments, etc.

Four years ago I was standing the DNC in Boston talking to Snow for about an hour. My politics are not the same as his. I thought he was a good writer and a so so talk show host. But one thing he was a very nice guy. We had some laughs over radio and politics. I'm sad he's gone. He was a great, down to earth guy. What a shame.
