FOX O & O

Since FOX doesn't have an O&O tv station presented in the bay area. Are there rumors for FOX to purchase either KTVU 2 or KRON 4?

Cox has been trying to sell KTVU for years. Young has been trying to sell KRON pretty much since they bought it. I'm sure that they're asking for more than the $750million they paid for it. I think that Univision and Telefutura should buy it. It would be the Spanish-Language channel on VHF in the country. At least I think so.

If you mean it would be the first full-power Spanish-language channel on VHF, nope. KVYE channel 7 in El Centro CA is Univision. KFTU channel 3 in Douglas AZ is Telefutura, as is KFPH channel 13 in Flagstaff AZ. WKAQ channel 2 and WLII channel 11 in San Juan PR are Telemundo and Univision, respectively - actually, I think all of the San Juan VHF stations are Spanish. KAZW channel 9 in Walla Walla WA was Azteca América before flipping to CW last September. KTRG channel 10 in Del Rio TX was Fe-TV, I believe, before going silent last year. KPHZ channel 11 in Holbrook AZ was Telemundo before switching channels with Daystar station KDTP 39 Phoenix. KPHZ is now KTAZ 39 Phoenix and channel 11 in Holbrook is KDTP Daystar.

Also, there are a host of low-power Spanish language stations on VHF channels.

Considering the switch to digital is now less than two years away (just slightly) does it even matter if it's a VHF? Also if a network isn't running high def instead of the cost of two seperate channel I would guess (correct me if I'm wrong) it's cheaper to run two seperate (sub)digital signals on on channel space.

If that's true, KRON will not be sold anytime soon. Even after NBC had made the agreement to pull their network's affiliation from KRON and give it to KNTV, they tried one last time to buy KRON - this time from Young, who had outbid them in the first place. NBC's preference was to own the historic NBC affiliate located in the central Bay Area - not an also-ran station in the South Bay with over the air reception problems in San Francisco and Marin. But there was NO WAY they were going to pay $750 million - they were hoping Young would bite the bullet and take a loss. But Young wouldn't budge on the price. So NBC ended up buying KNTV for $250 million. An NBC official noted that they had saved a half billiion dollars, and the decision was a "no-brainer."

KRON is a seriously de-valued property now - I doubt Young could get what they paid for it. More? Forget it. I don't think Rupert Murdoch and Company are stupid enough to pay that kind of money, or need a Bay Area O&O that much.
