Fox Oldies Sounded a Lot Better Than CBS-FM

I just want to say is that CBS-FM is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this weekend and I just want to say is that "Fox Oldies" is playing lots of oldies just like CBS-FM did since it first hit the airwaves back on 7/7/72. Van Ritshie, Bob O, Bob Corisino and Joe Manglass did an excellent job for this station. I hope that "Fox Oldies" is bringing a lot of listeners from CBS-FM since it was first heard from 1972 right up until the "Jack" back in 6/3/05.

Like I said in the "New York" boards that CBS-FM is celebrating 40 years as "New York's Oldies Station" and they'll have it all weekend. Any thoughts?

No you are wrong. Mornings are live on WRWD, WRNQ, and on WPKF 2pm - 6pm afternoons are live but for the most part they are voice tracked.

Show me a station that is not voice tracked. WSPK and WHUD are live 24 / 7

WCZX mid -days are off the satellite and I believe automated / voice tracked at night, and WBWZ is automated 24-7, no air talent. As far as I know even big WPDH is automated overnights. You could be right about Palma's WHUD and WSPK, but many even mid-sized markets are frequently voice tracked. BTW, I still believe WGNY mid-day is live with Bon O he does a call in request show at noon. I know some of these shows are phony but this sounds genuine. He starts asking for requests around 11:15. Don’t you think people would figure it out after a while?

Is there a possibility that the Fox Oldies people see a glimmer of revenue potential from that huge 'too-old' demo which escapes the CBS people?

It's a given that modern forms of music radio know that the younger crowd is not leaping aboard the dials the way they once had done for decades, to replenish the older, more cynical, set-in-their-ways crowd. That attrition supply line snapped. In fact, that umbillical cord started to fray before most new forms of personal listening were invented.

The result has been an audience candle, ablaze at both ends.

Perhaps there has been a 180° swerve .... a re-evaulation of those older demos and all that loot we're supposed to have stashed? It's a thought. From the rate that demo candle with two flames continues to melt, some programmers may be thinking about getting a few more miles out of a demo at least showed some interest in music radio.

Two things...Van has great pipes but the shtick is old and he sounds very insincere. Secondly - let me know if you actually find someone who ever got through to Bob O's request line. If that show isn't VT'd I'll eat Van's straw hat!!!
