I remember seeing a very old rerun where they shown the cops in Soviet Union. That was a very interesting episode considering what happened to the Soviet Union after that episode was made.

COPS is truly the first "reality show" IMO. And it is ACTUAL reality, unlike Jersey Shore, Kardashians, Hogans and other garbage that somehow passes itself off as reality. ::)

Agreed, Harry -- errr, I mean, KN. Nothing "real" about those reality shows.

Actually, if you want to split hairs, "Candid Camera" was the first "reality" show...

Great point, Freddy - and in song, too! ;D

Actually, you forgot the disclaimer that is always said at the end:

"'COPS' is filmed with the men and women of law enforcement. All suspects signed waivers, giving up their right to earn all royalties."

Let's take that back one more step, shall we?

How about when the show made its debut in 1947 on the ABC Radio Network as "Candid Microphone"? ;)

I remember when COPS went to Alaska one time in 1990 and was hoping they filmed a segment in Fairbanks. Boy, was I disappointed (Fairbanks didn't get its own Fox affiliate until two years later)!

Oh, yes. That was a GREAT episode!

There was a segment in there where some guy had picked up a prostitute and taken her home. She then proceeded to try and steal his wallet.
He locked her in the bedroom and called the cops. When they opened the bedroom door he walked in, pulled the blankets off of her and muttered
something in Russian. The translation subtitle at the bottom of the screen read "Americans here to see you!"

It was priceless! :D
