I've been hearing it played periodically since the weekend at :55 segment of the hour, where the commercials/promo usually go. What's up with that?

It means your local station doesn't have spots programmed to drop in at that point, either by accident, or on purpose, or because of computer failure. What you are hearing is just the way it comes in on the satellite feed, with an extended version of the theme song in case a local station doesn't have spots programmed to drop in at that point, either by accident, or on purpose, or because of computer failure. Or maybe you're listening to the straight feed by satellite, you didn't specify.
