Fox stations renew MyNetworkTV through 2018; CW impact

WHAT impact ?? Fox's renewal of MyNet only affects MyNet affiliates (Which means STATUS QUO - BUSINESS AS USUAL for them). It has NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on The CW or any other network

Pat, I think that is a reference to the possibility that the second Fox-owned station (where they have them) could be the backup affiliate in markets where Tribune owns affiliated stations and doesn't re-sign (negotiations in progress) and where CBS either does not have a duopoly or waives affiliating same with The CW.

In that scenario, the MyNet programming would become secondary affiliations for those Fox-owned stations as the MyNet programming shifted out of prime time (like it already has in L.A. on KCOP).

Secondly, the overall impact will be as it's always been - NONE - ZIP - ZILCH - ZERO !!!

That's because MyNet is mainly a syndication service as opposed to a network. That means those stations who are affiliated with MyNet as a primary won't have to worry about replacing the MyNet offerings with the syndicated versions of the same shows like Indie stations such as KCAL 9 have to

Additionally, there are many stations who either are affiiated with MyNet on a secondary basis & either put it on a subchannel or (Especially in the case of Fox & CW affiliates) time shift MyNet on the main channel to accomondate their primary network

In shorts, it just means BUSINESS AS USUAL - Nothing to see here

Which WXTX/channel 54 (Fox) in Columbus GA did up till a couple of years or so ago. As of now, Columbus has no My Network TV affiliate.

It's not the only market. Cable-only "WNFM" ("My TV 8") in the Fort Myers/Naples market was shut down by Comcast on July 1st of this year.

Let's make this clear: My Network TV will be around for as long as Fox wants it. There was no suspense in this renewal. The discussions with CW could result in an agreement and would take away CW from the Tribune owned stations. However, that would merely mean My Network TV would air after CW programming on those stations. This is no big deal for My Network TV since they are now a syndication service and don't need to demand carriage of programming in pattern. One has to think that Tribune may be quite happy to add more original programming to WGN America and then turn around and make that available to their other stations as a semi-programming service. Might also be true that neither Fox nor Tribune will do a deal with CW, forcing CBS to either put it on subchannels in markets where it has stations or find some other station group willing to take it.

Weigel would be quite happy to take it for WCIU in Chicago since they've had past business relationships with WGN and WB/CW; WPWR would be a definite last resort to the point that it would take subchannel graveyard WOCK rejecting it for them to be considered. In the big four markets, The CW has nothing to fear as WLNY in Riverhead/NY and KCAL will take it if Trib removes it, and WPSG in Philadelphia is CBS-owned; WBFS in Miami would also take it off WSFL's hands and happily throw MyNet to 2am. This is pretty much an appearances gambit, and in most markets, the MyNet O&O's are last resorts; only WDCA in DC, WTXH in Houston and KDFW in Dallas have an actual shot at the CW, and in St. Louis thanks to the Roberts brothers' ills turning WRBU into an Ion pipe and bumping MyNet to a .3, Sinclair would pretty much grab it to put on their .2 happily, along with Tegna grabbing it from WNOL in New Orleans and putting it on WUPL.

WTXH in Houston and KDFW in Dallas have an actual shot at the CW

KDFW will NEVER be a CW affiliate! KTXA (the CBS indie) will be the likely CW candidate if KDAF drops it.

And with Houston, I can see the CW going to indie KUBE/57 instead if KIAH drops it.

And you're right about that; I knew I was missing a CBS IND somehwere. Yeah, no chance KDFW gets it.
