Fox Sticks It To NBC Again...

Today, I noticed Fox Business was showing a chyron throughout the day, that read "President's Day - Live", with a graphic showing George Washington and Abraham Lincoln accompanying the words. I almost knew right then and there why they did this - Wall Street was closed today in observance of the holiday - but I wanted to turn on CNBC just to make sure. Sure enough, there they were, showing a "Biography" marathon.

I guess Fox will stop at nothing to torment poor NBC, even if it means sending their business channel to do it. ;D

Fox could have picked a channel that someone actually watches.

Aside from Don Imus (which may actually beat CNBC) Fox Business Network has almost no viewers.
Dave Ramsey gets some viewers at night, but that's really about it. Nationally they get 10-20,000 viewers during the day - tops. Imus has 150-200,000. Put another way, many local stations in top 10 markets have far higher viewer levels than FBN has nationally.

Once FBN gets enough viewers to warrant daily ratings trackings (i.e. being listed alongside the other cable news networks for ratings on sites like tvbythenumbers.com), it will be interesting to see where FBN's shows stand against the others, especially Ramsey's show in the 8 PM hour.

How long will it be before this station goes the way of CNNfn?

I wouldn't be too hasty in predicting the death of any broadcast property created by News Corp. They've had a strong string of successes. The Fox network had a pretty rocky start - all their shows were at the bottom of the ratings for the first few years. Many predicted there wasn't enough room for two cable news networks and they'd never surmount CNN's ratings and name recognition.

They're starting to hire some high profile people for Fox Business, including John Stossel. If they can lure a couple of big names away from CNBC, they probably have a chance.

Torment NBC? Um, ok.... Seriously, I doubt someone at Fox Business was sitting around thinking, "Hmmm, you know what would make the big bosses really happy? If we went live all day just to stick it to NBC after the Conan thing. Yeah, that wasn't going to be our approach, but, hey, let's use to properties distantly related to a "feud" that exists in some people's imaginations to prove a point."

How about Fox had a logical reason, as the upstart, to do something to make headway against the competition regardless of who owns the competitor?

Sticking it to NBC AGAIN?
How did they stick it to them in the first place?
The Conan thing? Just to let you know, there's no guarantee that Conan will end up on FOX. And if he does, there's very little chance that he'll stay there.

For starters, Fox's cable news network, which is growing leaps and bounds over MSNBC (as well as CNN)...

I bet they're waiting to grab Larry Kudlow with bated breath. If you listen to his radio show on WABC/New York on weekends, he really shows his true right-wi -- er, I mean, his true colors. I'm sure that Santelli fellow, who became a household name with his "President Obama, are you listening?" rant, is also on Fox Biz's wish list.

Not to mention Fox News' launch was several months after MSNBC's lauch.

Also, I think News Corp. in general has been tormenting NBC for quite some time, even before the Conan fiasco.

It's basic competition, regardless of who ultimately owns which networks that compete in which areas. They're also "tormenting" Bloomberg TV with Fox News, sports channels with Fox Sports Net, and Time Warner with Fox News.

Technically, months before Fox News' launch was that of AT (America's Talking). I believe the only political program that aired on AT was "Politics with Chris Matthews." The channel would eventually transform into MSNBC years later.

FBN is not on a lot of cable networks and the one's that offer it costs extra $ for an upgrade.

Say, did anyone catch the new Fox Business promo that slams CNBC for carrying the Olympics, with the tagline, "All Business, No Games"?

I understand it's nothing new, as I've come to find out they ran a similar campaign back in 2008, as well.

Fox Business? Hmm...never heard of it. I don't even think Dish Network carries it.
Wait, they do but it's in the premium package...
Honestly, the only way to establish yourself as a network is to actually make a deal with cable companies and satellites companies to provide your programming for little or no money. This is a tactic Fox News established to get into millions of homes and becoming what they are now.
But Fox also needs to think, people don't have money right now, do you think they're premium cable packages? I would understand subscribing to HBO and Starz because they actually provide something you can't get on TV, but a conservative slant to business news?
I'll pass...
As far as NBC, they're just trying to get ratings and make money by showing some mainstream programming. What's wrong with that? I'm sure Fox Business would take a leap if they could air Olympic coverage
