FOX TALK 950 - KFYO - LUBBOCK

I was listening to Randy Neugebauer today on Fox Talk 950 and heard a "caller" take advantage of the opportunity and blurt out a plug for KFYO and the ever desperate Chad Hasty show. While I have to say Fox Talk 950 has improved lately, (they sound tighter, seem to have some imaging and they don't seem to go off the air as much or for as long) I didn't realize that Fox Talk had caught up to KFYO to the point where the staff of KFYO has to call in to Fox Talk and try some bush league tactic to push themselves. Then again considering it came from Chad Hasty I guess it doesn't surprise me.

Chad Hasty is one of those grunts that will never really make it in radio. His "show" on KFYO which I heard once (and is all I needed to hear - the MAYOR hung up on him, LOL) and considering the time slot, sounds like it is nothing more than a bone being thrown to the dog in hopes of keeping him around to serve as the no talent glorified board operator that he really is. I can't imagine that Scott (Parsons) would stoop to that level or condone it.

So, I don't know if Hasty acted alone or on behalf of KFYO but it really made KFYO look bad and Hasty sound desperate. And worse, it actually gave a bit of credibility to Fox Talk 950. Which again, makes me wonder if Fox Talk is actually closing the gap between the two. Intersting. One final piece of advice to Fox Talk...try using a delay during live programming.

In the legal profession, they have a phrase, "Res ipsa loquitur," which means in Latin: "The thing speaks for itself."
 
I seriously doubt that a weekend talkshow host on the #1 rated AM acted with permission from anyone at his station.

It almost sounds like an Opie & Anthony-type incident.

I would think something like this would be handled internally, and we'll probably never hear another thing about it.
 
Buzz...obviously you don't listen to his show. They did say after that show that they called the Mayor and it wasn't him who actually hung up. Chad's show is progressing and getting better with each show. And lets just say your in radio...you should know not to judge a show by listening once. Knowing that KFYO is the leader in Lubbock I don't think they would just throw someone a bone...unlike 950. You also say that it was a KFYO staffer that called into 950, well the same "staffer" also called into Williams and Hyatt, and he's called in before...he's a listener...not a staffer. If you think 950 is the only station or show in America that's had fans of competition call in and drop the other Shows name...[EDIT] It's radio and it happens. So what's your real beef with Hasty and KFYO?

After listening to Chad's show and knowing what I know...I don't think it's 790 or Chad who's desperate. It was a stunt that many shows have done and keep doing. 950 has a delay, why didn't they use it? Why didn't the board-op screen out the call or hang up on the caller? The caller who did it calls into many shows here in Lubbock, or at least it seems like I've heard his voice on a few shows. I haven't talked with Mr. Hasty but I'm pretty sure however it came down it was out of fun. If anything Chad would want to hurt his old morning hangout not something that lasted 10 seconds and was funny, and trust me he has his beefs with that morning show.
