FOX TO DO CENTRALIZED GRPAHICS ON O&O's

Florida's News Center is reporting that the Fox O&O in Tampa will create, maintain and deliver all graphics packages, animations and other multimedia aspects for WAGA and all other Fox O&O's. No telling how many will be let go from Briarcliff Road.

So, in addition to the Faux "news models" the viewers now get common cartoons?

Where's Chuck Jones when you really need him! ;D

I am past the point of surprise. Gannett (including WXIA/WATL), Media General, Hearst-Argyle, NBC Universal, and others are doing this. There is one "art house" for the entire group, with only a web browser based interface at the local station. Gannett's graphics group is out of Denver, and NBC Universal's is out of Dallas, TX. (I believe WXIA/WATL was allowed to keep one local graphics person).

The Fox O&O graphics are already standardized. All this will be is relocating operations somewhere and laying off people locally. A few will be given the oporotunity to transfer and relocate, and the rest will be given pink slips.

Graphics are being centralized. Master controls are being centralized. News anchors are being centralized. I don't think there is nothing else that can be centralized without violating FCC regulations (salespeople?) A few years from now, most stations will only be a satellite reciever at the transmitter and a few key people crowded into an office the size of a bathroom (which the now bankrupt Equity already does).

Though in some communities served by an Equity station, its local presence is only the transmitter, and nothing else. An example of this is WMQF, the Fox affiliate in Marquette, Michigan.
