Fox to launch national US morning show in 2007

Fox Television Stations and Twentieth Television announced today the launch of a new, live, national morning program, scheduled to begin airing in January 2007. The new show will originate from New York and will air on all the owned-and-operated Fox affiliates.

For those who don't want to read the article it is just a 9AM to 10 AM show, not a big 3 morning show challenger or a "Good Day Wherever" replacement. The orginal poster should have mentioned it, but he claims not to have any original thoughts, since the topic title and his selective quoting from the article leave things unclear.

This has been in the works for a while. Fox runs syndicated shows like Regis & Kelly after their morning shows in many markets. Now they have a chance to build something on their own and potentially turn it into a profit center.

It's too bad it's not a competitor for The Early Show, Today Show, and Good Morning America because here in Hartford Tribune's FOX 61 runs a 3 hour Infomercial Block every morning 6AM-9AM.

There are several all local morning shows, like Good Day New York, which a lot of Fox stations air noting that they are all local.

Fox already tried this. They had "Fox After Breakfast" which was at 9AM EST, competing against Regis. "Good Day Live" which was at 9AM on KTTV and on the west, though aired in the noon in the east coast, didn't last either. And the CBS owned stations have tried a number of things at 9am, against Regis, none have been successful. CBS decided to pass on Rachael Ray for NY and Philly, permitting WABC, WPVI ito get the rights for it, instead of placing it against Regis on WCBS and KYW.

Maybe this new show will prove a success, but the only staple thing the Fox O&Os have in the morning are the court room shows.

I would contend that this effort has a much better shot at success. Fox After Breakfast was on at a time when Fox's local morning news shows were new and had few viewers. Good Day Live was on at the wrong time and was just a cheap use of local talent from Los Angeles.

This new show will start out on the O&O stations and usually run right after the morning news shows which are now much higher rated. In some markets it's possible the new Fox show will run after Regis on a Fox O&O.
