FOX-TV AFFILIATION IN SAN DIEGO

That assumes that CW lets them, of course. There may be a clause in the contract about OTA HD, though there's really no way to know.

Only five stations do HD in Nashville? My count was 7 (and 7 are on my list)...

If this is a done deal (Zell wouldnt have said anything if it wasnt right?) how soon would the transfer take place? Would we be looking at some time this summer at the earliest?

Does anyone have a working link to the video of Zell announcing the switch? The link to the baltomoresun.com site in this thread is returning a "page not found error."

Looks like Sam Zell may have a problem,
Seems that the FOX to KSWB 5 deal has hit a big roadblock..mainly CW

It would be interesting to see WHERE this new Tribune could flex its muscle?

CBS could take over in Boston, LA and Dallas/Ft Worth, leaving the Tribune with nothing if the Trib balks too much.

But Zell unlike the Tribune is solely in it for money, he doesn't care much about the centuries old reputation of the Tribune and WGN and the like. Like WTBS has faded away, so shall the old Tribune.

With DTV I don't see much leverage, except for channel position via PSIP. Still Chicago's WFLD is way up on Channel 32, (on cable it's mostly on Channel 12 or Channel 3).

This is great news for me (now that its confirmed.) I live so far north in SD County that I can get a better picture from KTTV than I can from XETV. It must be a real down day at the (for now) Fox 6 studios. What a way to come back from a holiday weekend.

Its interesting, 69 has a very good signal for a UHF, while I used to have trouble getting XETV just about anywhere in San Diego.

Still, I think it is a HUGE blow for XETV AND KUSI, and I know McKinnon wanted FOX BAD!!!!

I wonder if Tribune might push for more network affiliates in general.

ABC would kill for KPLR in St. Louis, might Zell try to get ABC there?

Good catch, according to SBGI's annual report all 9 ABC affiliation agreements expire on December 31, 2009.

Keep in mind that it won't be on 69 much longer. Come next February, KSWB will be operating solely on channel 19.

Yes, if you scroll just a few messages back, you'll see that this was established already. It'll be Fox 19, or Fox 5/19, or (most likely), Fox San Diego, much like is done in Chicago.

Those who are watching over-the-air will continue to punch in "69" to watch KSWB.

(they will indeed broadcast on channel 19 but they will transmit a signal that will tell digital TVs they're still channel 69)

Its been a few weeks since the initial announcement and I have not heard anything about what XETV will do, or what will happen to CW in San Diego. Has anyone heard anything on this account?

I'm not sure if it's at all related, but I just found...

www.cw6tv.com

There's a logo and a 'website coming soon'

Could it be that the networks are just trading channels? I suppose this would be the best scenario as both KSWB and XETV are already on the cable systems and already have digital signals. XETV, The CW 6 has a nice ring to it. I think KSWB should change calls though...

Cheers
100 in Scripps today. 97 in Carlsbad. It's unbearably hot. Just FYI.

No, that site is for WXCW in Fort Myers, FL. It's registered to a "James Schwartzel" who is associated with a "Meridian Radio" and the DNS points to Meridian Radio, which owns several media properties in Fort Myers including WXCW-46, known as "CW6."

Re: Fox 5 San Diego

I'm not sure why I'm so interested in this... but...

Fox 5 San Diego promos are now airing on KSWB 69/5. You can see a screenshot on wikipedia.

When will we learn where The CW will land??? Bash it all you want, but The CW is Fox ten years ago. IMHO.

Cheers.

Oh... I think that Fox 5 should revert to the old calls... KTTY, Fox 5 San Diego. Huh??? ;D
