Some of us actually ARE interested in what is going on here. If the updates were every hour, that might be excessive, but in situations like this, A LOT can change in a day.

If you don't like the updates, there are plenty of other threads on this board.

But giving a blow-by-blow account of even the most-banal events such as this?

Breaking News is great, not only when it actually happens, but when it's actually news.

That copyright notice used to include the phrase "accounts and descriptions of this game" or something to that effect. I don't know if it's still in there as I care less about MLB but to me it meant that commercial use of the game, its scores, descriptions etc. was through licensed outlets only.

The fact that a pivotal game in the ALCS was outdrawn by a meaningless NFL contest last Monday probably says all you need to know about beisbol en America these days.
 
And if both LCS's end up with forced Game 7's after teams in both series had a 3-1 lead... I got a gut feeling that perhaps those leading teams were asked to "take a couple of timeouts", a la what ESPN allegedly asked the Titans to do during a Monday Night Football blowout...
 
As we enter the dozenth day (is that a word?) of the blackout, Fox claims that Cablevision is advising customers to access websites that offer the programming illegally. Ivi, which is currently being sued by Fox, among others, for unauthorized distribution of its content, "has been pitching itself to Cablevision as an online work-around to the retrans dispute, suggesting it buy the $4.99 monthly subscription for disaffected subs... and would be a good PR move for the cable company"; Cablevision, of course, takes the "Hogan's Heroes" approach and says, "I hear nothing... nothing!":

Apparently, the blackout has gone on for so long, according tot he article, the WNYW call letters have changed to WYNY. ;D

While I'm no fan of cable, a 300% increase means nothing. So if they sold five antennas this month and 15 antennas the following month that a three fold increase. But actual raw data show it's nothing.

Further living in a building intense market like Chicago, DTV is very hard to get even with antennas. The buildings and density block a lot of signals. How many of those customers who got antennas are going to be able to get a broadcast consistantly.

For those wanting to dip a toe in the over-the-air water, I'd suggest also buying a very long coax cable, so that you can get the antenna as high as you possibly can, with a path as obstruction-free as possible, and still get the signal back to the TV. For instance, we caught Glee last night with about fifty feet of coax connecting the antenna with the TV. The antenna itself was an amplified set of rabbit ears from RCA bought a few years back at Home Depot. Worked like a champ on the fifty-or-so mile distance between my second floor and the Empire State Building, and it may have tipped the scales on getting a permanent outdoor antenna installation past the Department Of Defense (you know, the one I married...)

It also mentions they would lock into the rates "for one year." Great. So now Cablevision subscribers have to go through this crap again exactly one year from today. I wonder how many folks will bolt them for satellite or FiOS by then.
 
I don't see why FOX wants so much for their networks. How much does CBS charge? Using them as an example because they are the top viewed network.

As for Cablevision didn't they lose customers when they didn't add YES Network on the first day leaving Yankee fans without a way to watch. Im sure some went back after YES was added but still.
 
Wanna bet a deal would be reached AFTER the World Series ends and the winning team's trophy is safely locked up in the display case?

One thing I would like to see is Fox paying the radio stations to black out the games on their signals, paying the local newspapers not to distribute copies in Cablevision areas, and enticing all web sites to withhold results until after the World Series is over, just as a "bargaining chip" to get Cablevision to see their way. I don;t think that will happen, but with Fox being Fox, anything can happen.
 
Yesterday, a caller on WFAN's Mike Francesa radio show claimed that he attempted to buy a digital DTV converter at Radio Shack but was told by the manager that they were sold out of units because "Cablevision bought them all up."

And incidentally, Cablevision is offering baseball die-hards the chance to watch this year's World Series online - for "free" (i.e. through MLB's website, which charges people to view live content):

HAH! "They're trying to change the rules"...back to what they were before 1996, Fox-boy.

The only thing Cablevision owes to Fox for retransmission of their broadcast channels is exactly one set of eyeballs for every program their customers view. Anything more than that is robbery.
 
Does News Corp. still have any financial interest in DirecTV? ;D
