Fox wins big with return of Owens to Philly.

From http://www.tvweek.com/news.cms?newsId=10878
The return of controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens to Philadelphia produced a ratings touchdown for Fox Sports.

The loss of Mr. Owens' new team, the Dallas Cowboys, to the Eagles on Sunday generated a 13.9 Nielsen Media Research household rating and a 28 share and was watched by 22.1 million total viewers. The ratings are up 29 percent over the fifth game of last season and outdrew NBC's Sunday prime-time game, which featured the San Diego Chargers and the NFL champion Pittsburgh Steelers.

For the week, Fox's Cowboys-Eagles tilt was the second-highest-rated program in all dayparts, finishing second only to ABC's "Grey's Anatomy."

So far this season, Fox is having its highest ratings with the NFL since it began covering football. Fox's national games are averaging a 13.5/27, up 11 percent from last year.

It should be noted, that the Chargers game on NBC was up against the padres playoff game, but still, bet NBC is kicking themselves for picking the X-mas game in Dallas, over this.

Also, while the eagles game was the 2nd most watched program of the week, it isn't listed in the top 10, because it didn't air in primetime. Grey's Anatomy, which was the only program to beat the eagles game got a 14.9 rating. CSI which was 2nd in primetime got a 13.5 rating.

Locally in Philadelphia.

Eagles Notes | T.O.'s return hands Fox network huge regular-season ratings win

Terrell Owens' return to Lincoln Financial Field generated big TV ratings locally for the Fox network.

The Eagles' 38-24 win over Owens and the Dallas Cowboys was the all-time highest-rated regular-season game for Fox, which has been broadcasting NFL games since 1994.

Sunday's game had a 40.1 rating and a 64 share here, which meant it was seen in 1,179,000 households in the area and nearly two-thirds of the sets in use were tuned in.

Before that, the regular-season game with the highest rating for Fox in Philadelphia was the Eagles' 17-7 win over Arizona on Nov. 6, 1994, which drew a 38.4 rating.

Big markets such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco/Oakland and Boston have never had a regular-season rating as high as 40 on Fox.

And the game was pre-empted in San Francisco, Phoenix (an area with a lot of Cowboy fans) and Jacksonville due to home team conflicts.

Love em or hate em, win or lose, America's Team = ratings.

No, I'd say more Owens returning to Philly was the reason for such high ratings. Both the eagles and cowboys have played eachother before on national TV (infact, the towel Incident happened on MNF during such a matchup), and the games never did this good. This game had a storyline.
