Fox 'Zorn' Reaches New Low

I am already on record as detesting virtually all of what Fox broadcasts nationally, with the sole exception of live sports, but this morning an ad for an upcoming Fall show reached a bottomless new low. Mind you, this aired during the local morning show (which I do watch) and at a time when plenty of children might also be watching.

The ad showed Zorn (a cartoon character) grilling a live (cartoon) octopus on a BBQ, flipping it over and making a remark that it needed to cook further. The octopus was clearly still alive and screaming in pain and both Zorn and the human in the image thought that was hilarious.

I realize that criticizing Fox for their programming probably isn't worth the effort as they have trolled the bottom of the broadcast venues for many years now but this is exceptionally disturbing. Not only is the ad very not funny but borders on the very edge of animal abuse presentation (and yes, I realize the octopus is a cartoon character and other cartoon characters are also abused in the name of humor BUT this is not a cartoon battle between Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny and clearly shows an animal being cooked to death).

Our kids, strike that, nobody needs to see this kind of sadistic "humor". I sincerely hope that Fox will reconsider airing this trash but if not, that PETA will sue them to take it off the air. There is no excuse in this day and age where many people are trying to end centuries of animal abuse to have this crap broadcast into our homes and into the heads of our children.

I can see Landtuna's point. Let's not encourage the psychopaths out there.
They'll transition from cartoon cruelty to animal cruelty to human cruelty at some point.

Yep, last time I was out west, I had a great time dropping anvils on road runners, coyotes, all sorts of critters. Looking for my first human victim here. I blame a youth misspent with the Warner Brothers.

I doubt PETA would get involved with this since they are well strange. How they handle RATS is an example of this. They get upset at how so many universities and colleges use them for research and how cruel it is to them but at the same time get upset at the various pet stores and animal shelters who sell them and/or allow for the adoption of them as pets. Heck even Leave it to Beaver did a show about Beaver having a pet rat even though at the end the Rutherfords got the rat !!

So...you're upset over a fictional cartoon character grilling a fictional "live" cartoon octopus? Is that right?

I am greatly upset that some Fox suit thinks even a cartoon depiction of animal abuse is real comedy and, being animation, will wind up on TV's with children watching.

I too grew up in the age of Sylvester v Tweety, Bugs v Yosemite Sam and Wile E. Coyote v RoadRunner. Those cartoons were clearly over the top fantasies and the kids watching knew the difference. As FreddyE1977 pointed out, we have more than enough psychopaths out there now without encouraging any more.

There needs to be some level of moral responsibility in the programming department of Fox and judging by this I sure don't see it.

Tuna - ITS A CARTOON !!! Get a grip dude

Like SERIOUSLY - I'd expect THAT kind of post from Ivan Badget but YOU ????? NO WAY !!!

In fact, the Landtuna I know would be CASTIGATING Ivan for complaining about it citing EVERYTHING from South Park to Donald Duck, Porky Pig (BOTH of whome have been featured in HUNTING & CAMPING cartoons), & Sylvester the cat to THE ROAD RUNNER as cases in point

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 :)
