Fox61 Hartford Changes?

Hi folks, first time poster but frequent reader of the board...I was at a minor league baseball game Friday night and while thumbing through the team's program, I came across an ad for Fox61 WTIC-TV.

What struck me about the ad was it showed a new logo for WTIC-TV, one that reflects the look of most Fox O&O's - i.e. WFXT in Boston and WNYW in NY

Does anyone know of any major changes on the horizon - new set, graphics, and when this new look will launch?

The only change that I know of at Fox 61 is their news director, Paul Lewis, is leaving the station after being there for about ten years.

Good, I hope this comes to fruition. Their current music and graphics are not the best. I think their most professional look was during the early to mid 90s, during the Beth Carroll & Pat Sheehan era, when they had the rather large anchor desk, and background of Hartford's skyline, not to mention the music (which sounded like a call to war at times, with all the drumming).

I think things became seemingly low class looking when they knocked down the background wall, for a view of the generally always empty newsroom. Even the so called weather center was Pat Sheehan's former corner where he did the viewer interactive call/write-in segment "Tonight in Connecticut" later called "FOX Vox".

I really hope they get a new set, music, and graphics, especially if it resembles WNYW's new design, which I think is as good as it gets. WTIC should consider a morning or evening news as well, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

I think you mean this ad here:

An interesting change

One change is that as of March 27th the entire 60 min version of the FOX 61 News at 10 is being simulcast (including comemrcials) on WB20 instead of about a 22 min simulcast with their own Sports & Weather.

Re: An interesting change

If WTIC-61 is planning changes, one change should be this: The station ought to launch a local 7 to 9 A.M. morning news show.

Many other Fox affiliates have had much success with local morning shows going head-to-head against the network morning shows; in fact, there are several markets where local 7 to 9 A.M. morning shows on Fox-owned or affiliated stations top the ratings in their time markets, beating the network morning shows.

Were WTIC to launch a local 7 to 9 A.M. morning show, there would be a chance that within two to three years, it would be giving the network morning shows serious competition.

Where's Paul going?

Yes, that's the ad! I assume that's also from the New Britain Rock Cats program

YES...in its entirety.<P ID="signature">______________

Tex: On a couple of the TV blog/gossip sites, I read rumors that he was headed for WVIT. But only Paul really knows, and the gossip sites said that he isn't discussing his future employment plans.

Re: An interesting change

One thing that should be noted is the logo changes are just for the Fox O&O's, not the affiliates. To see an example of the new logo go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WNYW
The new logo on Fox 61 is just another variation of the old Fox affiliate logo, not the one exclusively for stations owned and operated by Fox.
