FoxNews, staying or going?

Been calling Sirius. Last week Fox News programming is leaving. Today, they tell me it's staying. It's just been a rumor. I guess we'll find out on the 17th if Tony Snow and Alan Colmes are still on. Tony snow's website says he'll still be leaving Sirius. If their 2 shows are gone next week, I guess Fox News Channel will be gone on the 1st and I'll be getting me another XM and getting rid of Sirius.

Yeah they told me that FOX was staying and so was Alan and Tony. I hope they're right. If not, I'll be really ticked off for one reason: Sirius cut off my service this week, and if it turns out to be Alan's last week I will throw my radio against a wall.

I already did that and XM SUCKS. With my new car, I actually had a choice of getting XM or Sirius (Ive been with Sirius for I guess 3+ years now), and decided I would try XM because of this rumor.. XM SUCKS.

1) Country Channel. Sure they have Hwy 16... but I like to hear a little bit of everything like how Sirius New Country's format is.. Advantage SIRIUS

2) Sound Quality. XM has the worst sound quality I have ever heard. They claim because I am in Miami, the dial is filled with other stations. Funny, how when I had Sirius, I never had this issue.

3) Hip-Hop channels Suck. period.

4) At first I liked Kiss (CHR) I honestly thought it was going to be like KIIS oit of LA (dont know why I thought this)... however, it sucks. Sirius Hits 1 Kills It.

5) No Trance on XM.. all cheese.

6) BPM is waaaay better than Sirius The Beat... but its all the same commercial cheese.

7) Jocks on XM suck.

8) XM wont have Howard.

Stick with Sirius.. Sorry about my rant.. Im really disappointed that I chose XM over Sirius.

You're really going to cancel because of one news channel that is nothing but a simulcast of a TV channel? Sure, I think losing Fox News Channel would be bad for Sirius, but it certainly wouldn't make me consider leaving. I care much more about the music and Sirius's own in house programming. As far as I'm concerned, they could just put on MSNBC instead of Fox. It would probably be a lot cheaper and would suit me just as well.

Yes. I called Comcast every day until they carried it in my system back in 2000. I listen to the Fox Report every night driving home from work.

In general, people threaten to cancel one service for another all the time, but only the teeny tiniest minority of people actually follow through with it, especially if you're locked into an annual contract and they pull a no refund clause on you (as some deals involving free or deeply discounted discounts do). Sirius isn't concerned at all about Fox because it's not even close to being one of their more popular channels - none of the TV simulcasts or talk channels (except for Howard) are. Sirius lost Air America and there was griping, but the lines weren't exactly jammed with actual cancellation calls.

People are looking at a new substantial equipment investment, especially if mounting equipment in their cars. If they had a lot of accessories like the boomboxes and such, those become instantly useless as well.

These audio soundtrack channels have been fading away since XM and Sirius launch made-for-radio content. As long as CNN is still there, most people are not going to care, especially with Sirius' younger subscriber numbers who don't listen to news/talk radio anyway.

If you mean "they" in the sense of the customer service reps, they don't know anything about Sirius programming decisions. You'll know before they will. They were saying AAR wasn't leaving Sirius even -after- they left.

Dude, I'm 16 and I'm addicted to news/talk radio. That's why I'm ticked over Alan Colmes leaving tomorrow. I think his show is great. He gets the most right-wing wacko callers and it makes for interesting radio.

I emailed Sirius about Fox and they told me that they weren't parting ways but I think they were just blowing smoke up my ass. I am one that got Sirius for the talk channels. I can understand why Sirius dropped Air America. The Network in bombing in every market. Even in the liberal markets they aren't pulling above a 2 share. Why would Sirius want to pay for something that people aren't even listening to on free old fashioned radio? If they can find a good liberal lineup they ought to have create another channel, but as far as dropping Fox news. Why would they want to drop the Number 1 cable news channel??

Ask your friends who Alan Colmes is and be prepared for blank stares. Colmes show is targeted to right wing audiences on the Fox Radio Network, so it's no surprise he gets them. His show is surrounded by conservatives on stations that generally air only conservative radio, so Alan is promoted as "give this guy a piece of your mind" by the Fox bumpers.

Check out Stephanie Miller sometime if you want to hear truly entertaining libtalk on Sirius. Her show's humor is targeted to a younger audience and is far more entertaining than Alan.

You might also enjoy Randi Rhodes, but she's on Air America, which is now XM-exclusive. You can download her show from: http://www.randirhodesarchives.com/ if you want to sample it. Prepare for her NY accent though. :)

This isn't the News/Talk board so I'll keep it brief - Air America is not bombing in every market. They are doing extremely well in several markets like Portland, and are holding their own in most others. The reason Sirius lost AAR wasn't by choice - XM cut a deal with AAR for exclusive carriage in return for XM paying for a studio in Washington for AAR talent. Sirius didn't want to lose the channel.

They are slowly building their libtalk back with Jones and independent programming. Fox News management and Sirius management are not happy with each other over aforementioned nonsense over Alan Colmes show accidentally being displaced by Stephanie Miller back in the fall which led to Fox pulling the plug on their TV soundtrack channel for Sirius. Unprofessional. Fox is also asking cable operators for a 400% rate increase in 2006, so they are no doubt demanding more from Sirius as well as carriage of their new 24 hour Fox News Radio network they are building. Sirius felt it could survive without the hardball, and they would be right.

I don't think the Colmes/Miller thing was a cause, but it was an effect.
I think Fox is pushing their new Talk channel and Sirius wasn't biting. It was probably something like, Fox says if you don't take the new channel, you can't have Fox News either or it'll cost you more, and Sirius called their bluff.

Does Disney do the same thing to cable systems that don't pick up every new flavor of ESPN they introduce? ESPN Classic disappeared from the Comcast system up in Lynn, Mass., where I have relatives, without warning last year, right about the time Disney was introducing ESPNU, which the system never picked up. Could Disney have pulled Classic as punishment for that system's refusal to add ESPNU, or was Comcast just sending an "Enough ESPN channels, no more!" message to Disney?

Seeing that comcast is going through some changes involving the adelphia acquisition (i.e. them and Time Warner swapping markets). I wouldnt doubt it. Plus Comcast has been getting more aggressive in pushing their subpar offerings to the masses(G4,OLN), which lost them a channel slot on Dish Network, as well as throwing out other offerings on their cable side(Trio in the Dallas market, replacing with ZEE TV). I hope and pray TW swoops in here and improves service soon.
