FOX's Alcatraz

Last night (monday) was a 2 hours premiere of Alcatraz. So far I like the show its remind me of Prison Break and Fringe. I think this show will stick around very well. Alcatraz will be on Mondays @9pm et after House on FOX's Mondays....

I have DVR'd it - not watched yet. Looks promising.

Funny - my son was watching it last night while I was sitting at the computer - about 20 feet away, in an adjoining room. I noticed the music, and told him it sounded like Lost. Come to find out - the two shows have the same producer - JJ Abrams. I assume it's a "Bad Robot" production.

I am SO perceptive... ;D

I missed it but I'm hoping they put it on demand. Is the show at least somewhat realistic? I don't like fantasy or supernatural stuff.

From what I heard on the radio ads, "you're not going to believe it," and it's about 300 or so prisoners who disappeared when Alcatraz closed down in 1963, and are reappearing in today's world to invoke mayhem. So it only sounds like "fantasy or supernatural" so far....

Being that there were no proven successful escapes from Alcatraz it definitely isn't reality.

Finally watched Alcatraz last night on DVR. I liked it. It has the potential to get tedious - they catch one dangerous escapee every week, blah, blah. But I'm willing to give it a few more weeks.

As to being realistic - whether or not anybody successfully escaped from Alcatraz in real life is not pertinent. In the show, it's clear that the "escapees" and missing guards disappeared, and have come back 48 years later without aging at all. So it's obvious there is some supernatural explanation for this, that they will slowly reveal clues about, and finally explain in the last show of the series. This is the same plot device the producer (JJ Abrams) used in Lost. Many viewers suspected that the people on the island were all dead as a result of the plane crash, but it wasn't revealed until the series finale.

Plus, the time travel thing.

I was addressing a previous poster who wondered whether the show would be realistic or one of the supernatural/science fiction themes.

IMHO the reality of Alcatraz is much more interesting than a writer could make of the well-worn "returns again" theme.

True that. The time-travel thing seems like a gratuity gimmick.
Yeah, see "Star Trek" (2009) for an example of that. That was the only way to reboot the series with new actors playing old characters. Tired and worn out.
