Fox's Anchorwoman starts filming next month at CBS19 in Tyler

It's just not understandable why Hurley alllowed himself and the station to be sucked into this highly questionable falderal. The story line may well not involve the station itself, but chances are both Hurley and the staff will wind up with the proverbial egg on their faces. Hurley's reaching for humor, publicity, and whatever, bodes no good. I may be wrong but the time is getting close when we'll find out.

I've never understood this deal, so I couldn't agree more. Allowing another network to film a series at KYTX is asking for trouble. If it's a hit, which I sincerely doubt, it's a minor coup for Fox, but if it goes the way of most Fox shows throughout their history it's an embarrassment for everyone involved.

I do want to thank Uncle Barky, though, for keeping us abreast of the situation.

Even Uncle Barky failed to learn anything new through his interview with Hurley. The same question ran through my mind--if Fox wanted to develop an achorwoman concept, why not do it at a Fox station? Could be they didn't want to chance embarrassing a Fox outlet so they chose to humiliate a station of one of the major networks...and Phil Hurley took the bait. Boy oh boy, the after shocks wll be much more interesting than the original viewing.

Hurley has been in the shadows of KLTV since leaving that station almost 20 years ago. He's been trying to make a name for himself and Max Media forever. He tried at KETK and could never get them over the hump. And, now at KYTX, he's pulling out all the stops to try and be the big man on the block again, but it's not going to happen. This will be a big embarrassment to the station's image. If you're trying to build credibility with a News Department in Northeast Texas, this is the WRONG way to do it. Do you think the viewers at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler or Mobberly Baptist in Longview are going to have any respect for a news department that promotes that kind of junk?! You gotta remember your target demos, like it or not (I don't), you have to cater to your target audience. And, in Deep Northeast Texas, it's the Southern Baptist Community. KLTV may be as dry as white toast, but that's what that market lives and breathes. They don't like the outrageous. This stunt will backfire, mark my words.

Here is a link to the latest promo they've rolled out...She starts "on the 5pm news" June 11th, however taping for the 'series' has started.

Cheesy, very cheesy. A couple of weeks remain before the credibility of CBS 19 News will equal that of the WWE.

This is reprehensible. If I were the other anchors/reporters working at this station, I would be insulted. I wonder if this is why their News Director walked a couple of months ago. If I were a credible news person, I would want nothing to do with this gimmick and that's exactly what it is. It's a shame, too. Because before this, they had a nice little operation going and I have a few friends that work there. The station is nicely set up for that size of market. They have a few toys the other stations don't. All they have to do is establish credibilty. But no, they'd rather take the low road. Typical Hurley. He tried to do it so many times, when I was at KLTV, and he was at KETK. But, this might backfire more than anything he's ever done. And, I'm going to sit back and laugh my a$$ off.

I wonder what CBS is thinking about all of this.....this is one of their affiliates doing something for a competitor. If I were the head of CBS affiliate relations, I would be screaming for disaffiliation.

And, I'm sure KTVT CBS 11/Dallas-Fort Worth & KSLA/Shreveport, who have both lost viewers because of the addition of KYTX to the market, would love to see that happen.

CBS 19 would do better in the ratings if they had better anchors and reporters. They have one or two good reporters...the others look like they were pulled from the cash register at Dairy Queen. Also, Could they not find anyone better than Randy Lynn????????? The minute he opens his mouth I fall asleep.

FOX also required them to remove all CBS logos and branding from their newscast. They are now calling themselves KYTX-19 during the newscast.

I still have some good friends that work there, but must admit:

"They have one or two good reporters...the others look like they were pulled from the cash register at Dairy Queen."

That did made me snicker a bit.

Not that there's anything wrong with working the cash register at Dairy Queen, you understand....

Do/Will they have a neutered news set they will use?

Wonder what CBS suits think about this circus/fiasco?

For folks like Bill and me that are no longer in East Texas, is there a hope in wherever of being able to see the unadulterated newscasts?? Streaming? YouTube? Anybody???

C414B,

I've noticed that they do put up some of their broadcasts and news stories on their website. Not sure if they'll be unfiltered or edited.

But I'm positive our buddies still in ET will keep us updated as to how this plays out.

I've been to their website and viewed some of the clips. I was hoping that someone would have or know where to find the unedited newscasts. I suppose the clips on their website will have to do.

How's Washington these days? My wife is from the Yakima Valley area. Don't remember if I shared that with you previously or not. That's beautiful country up there...especially the central area where she's from.

Are you doing anything radio-wise there?

Washington's just the best! Lovely weather (well, at least Spring, Summer and Fall) and you're right, gorgeous landscapes! I remember you telling me your wife was indeed from the Yakima area. Lovely there as well.

Not doing full-time radio presently. Its a funny market....only 5 stations, and they're all owned by the same company. Plus with Western Washington University here, they have a never ending supply of full-timers, part-timers, interns etc. Its like you've got a few veterans and a bunch of just-out-of-college kids on the air here. Good opportunity for those fresh out, not so good if you've got a long resume.

I've been concentrating on industrial narration, spots, plus filing in from time to time in the Vancouver BC market whenever possible. I'll probably be back in Texas for a visit sometime in July. Am hoping to be able to check out the Anchorwoman thing while I'm there.

Sounds like you're staying busy and have fallen in love with the country up there. Far cry from Texas weather, eh?

How many times have you said K--- instead of C--- north of the border?

Mr. C.....

So far, the few times I've done any fill-in work, its been for stations that have name-like monikers such as Warm, Ocean, Mountain, Coast, Clear, The Q, Sun, etc...so I didn't have to worry about the calls.

Can't understand why CBUF/Le Premiere' Chaine' won't return my calls. Just because it caters to the French-Canadian market is no reason to shut me out. Geeez, its like they have a different word for everything!
