Frank Beckmann Retiring After 48 Years on WJR/Detroit

https://news.****************/articles/c41065/Frank-Beckmann-Retiring-After-48-Years-on-WJR-Detroit

News/Talk WJR-AM mid-morning host Frank Beckmann announces his retirement after a 48-year radio career with the Detroit station. A sports broadcasting legend, Beckmann has hosted "The Frank Beckmann Show" on WJR weekdays from 9am-noon for the last 18 years. His last show will air on Friday, March 26.

Named "Best Midday Personality" by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, Beckmann has been cited as Michigan's top sportscaster for his work as the only person to broadcast games for all four of Detroit's major sports teams and his creation of Detroit's first Sports Talk show, "Sportswrap", in 1981. He was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 and has also been inducted into the Michigan Associations of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and the VIP Mentoring Coaches Challenge Hall of Fame.

Hopefully WJR will pick up Glenn Beck for the 9-Noon time slot.

I don't know. Cumulus has been shutting down Talk stations. They just changed WWCK (AM) 1570 and its new translator W297CG, to Classic Hits (70s to 90s) as K107.3.

I know it would never happen, but it would be cool if WJR became an Oldies station “The Giant 76” WJR Detroit’s True Oldies. (Will someone please wake me up, it was only a dream) At any rate, I think WJR will remain talk for a long while until Cumulus ever decided to sell to a smaller company for a bargain basement price. Look at what happened to 77/WABC.

That definitely won't happen. If they're going to bring in an outside host, it will be Chris Plante or Brian Kilmeade.

WJR makes WAY too much money for Cumulus to drop the format.
