Frank Caliendo won't be back on Fox NFL Sunday

From his website, via his Facebook page: "To everyone asking about the FOX pregame. I will not be back this coming season. It was great to be part of the team with Terry and the guys for the last 9 years, but it's time to move on..."

Wonder who'll take his place.

He better not take his act to The NFL Today (which I consider to be the more sensible of the network pre-game shows, with Sunday NFL Countdown on the cable side), even if CBS has Super Bowl XLVII!

Speaking of which...I wonder who'll be their lead-out show? An hour-long Big Bang Theory/Two And a Half Men crossover episode (since they'll be back-to-back on Thursdays)? Person of Interest? NCIS: Los Angeles?

Terry Bradshaw provides more than enough comic relief

Apparently I'm one of the few around here that likes Caliendo, although it seemed like he was just phoning it in for the most part last season.

If anything, he phoned it in on his game predictions, just breaking even for all of his regular season game picks last year.

Impersonators tend to wear out their welcome when they're featured on a TV show.

They do tend to work better on radio. I heard Caliendo do half an inning of Cleveland Indians
baseball as the play-by-play team of John Madden and George W. Bush.

Gotta say, it was one of the funniest things I had ever heard on the radio.

One thing Caliendo did as Madden that I liked, was after saying something totally abstract, then looks up at the sky, as if to say, "What did I just say?!?!"

At least Caliendo is a step up from that weather girl that use to be a feature on FOX NFL Sunday. Jillian Whats-her-name. ::)

The looks on Bradshaw and Long faces after she did her Hooters imitation showed how embarrassed they were having her on the show.

Perhaps instead of bringing in "Brainless Babes with Boobs" and comedians, just stick to having the panel discuss football.

Oh yeah and one final thing. Bring back James Brown (not the singer) to the FOX team. He was great. The guy they have now is not.

As has been proven numerous times, comedy people and sports do not mix.

But they don't ever seem to get it.

These pre-game shows aren't sports. They're entertainment shows. Dennis was a bad idea in the booth during the game. But he'd be a fine addition to the pre-game silliness. And I expect Fox to replace Frank with something very similar. They'd have Homer Simpson there every week if they could get it done in a timely way. "Mmmm...pie."
