Frank's a good guy and a real pro. His work on TV will be missed.

Look at his quote, though.... The job he's taking requires a little snark. Hmmmmm....

Veteran television reporter Frank Camacho said Tuesday that he's quitting journalism after nearly 30 years to take a new job with the Arizona Democratic Party.
Camacho, who hosts the weekly television show Politics Unplugged on Channel 3, takes over as the spokesman for the party next month. His last day at the station will be April 24.
Starting a new career in politics was appealing, Camacho says, because he, "doesn't like the way the (political) discourse has gone."
"We can't talk to one another anymore," Camacho said Tuesday morning. "There are no solutions anymore, all we get is gridlock and silly bills."
 
One of the true professionals here in Phoenix...he will be missed at 3TV. Frank was a great utility player, reporting in the field, anchoring a newscast or hosting the weekly Politics Unplugged.
 
Frank will definitely be missed. I will never forget the day of the shooting of Rep Gabrielle Giffords. After GMAZ added, Frank came on with Tess Rafols. He worked his Iphone like a 16-year old and gathered relevant information quickly which made KTVK shine that fateful morning.

It's too bad that KTVK couldn't find a more prominent position for him. I would have loved to see him anchor on a daily basis.
 
Yes, a true professional in all senses of the word. I think of all the news people he will make the move as smoothly as can be done.
 
I recall hearing Frank (I think it was then KOPA) do the morning drive news for the Crazy Dave Otto Show... ;)

Mr. Camacho will be missed but he will definitely be outstanding at his next position.

Good luck to Frank. I really like him.

Having said that, I believe it is best for news anchors who are that involved in politics to step away from the anchor chair. News should be reported as unbiased and without slant (not that Frank wasn't capable of reporting news this way). There is however, one reporter in the Phoenix area that REALLY gets under my skin because he/she seemingly has an axe to grind based on the "investigations" he/she does that manages to specifically target public figures within a specific political party, as well as just about anything that comes down the pipe when it comes to the people we hire to protect us (police/sheriff, etc). Just ONCE would I like for him/her to report something positive about the men and women in uniform here in the valley.
 
I once worked with Frank (very briefly) and dealt with him as a reporter many times. I had no doubt he favored the Democrat party, which is his right. His personal statements off the air were an easy giveaway. But Frank has the character and the professionalism that when he did his on-air work, he gave the viewers the straight story without apparent bias. His political interview shows were the same way. He brooked no nonsense and wanted nothing to do with name-calling or personal attacks - just stick to the issues. I think John Hook, whose politics I do not know, is similar in temperment. I wish more reporters would be that way, but so many just want to get on the soapbox. Ironically, Frank now gets paid to be on the soapbox and while I'm not a Democrat, I wish him well.

A lot of it has to do with age. Certainly, younger reporters have grown up in the "infotainment" era, where there is little need for in-depth, impartial reporting. That said, many of the politicians in Arizona NEED good reporters to challenge their assumptions. I see a lot of people here who just go along with the politicians, not thinking about the impact to their neighbors and community.
