Frank=dunzo

So, with the final (or so it seems) death throes of Frank rapidly approaching (people being told they won't get renewed, general confusion and bad morale amongst the staff, comeback by BLM) what happens to the Frank? Won't be long before it's jock-free, I bet

jock-free - maybe - afterall - if their position is more music - only the hits - how many titles/artists need to be announced???

As far as the big "L"-word (local) - they aren't doing a lot in the mid-coast community, at least, with 105.5 - and they can prerecord weather drops at the very least...

With 'MGX having a little resurgance in the portland market - and no real strong 18-34, 18-49 female stations on the mid-coast - perhaps its time for frank to meet "Jack" - steal what could be a one-and-done book for "The Coast" - and open up their appeal...and their playlist...

hell, they already have the name for an anything goes station...

problem with that is, when MGX tried their Jack-ish format (whatever that was) a couple years, it killed the station dead. and CLZ ain't exactly burnin' up the ARBS either.

Interesting. Exactly who isn't getting "renewed"? It would seem unlikely for what is the highest billing radio station in the market to be in the final death throes doesn't it; or is this really your hope?

You just completely lost your credibility. I now understand you're probably some jealous competitor of theirs, not anyone who has any true substance to bring to the discussion. You clearly don't buy substantial advertising in the Portland and New England market. You clearly don't have knowledge of reports from BIA and similiar concerns regarding billing levels in all markets across the country. I will not disparage any property or company, but WFNK rates are quite above other radio properties in Portland and according to BIA so is their billing.

that would be the very nice, affable and hard-working Bill in the morning. word is he's lookin' for new employment with the news that there's nothing further for him at the casa du francis.

Let's be honest, dude. The Bone without Howard=nonexistant numbers. Bonedriver's not exactly lighting 'em up in the afternoons either. Air America is a proven loser. Hire Willy Ritch or something, anything, to get people to care. WBACH is a tiny niche at best. Frank has lost listeners every ratings since their first, admittedly monster book. Guess you can't spend $1 million every book, now can ya? Not to disparage you and your obviously well-informed, BIA or whatever rates and levels. Frank is dead, it's over, dead in the water, and the company is pissing away good employees who endured poor management and no game plan meant to last more than a few months. Look what that poor bastard Bill Fox had to endure with the constant screwing with his show. Maybe I should have titled this thread Nassau in Portland=Dunzo. And yeah, I am a competitor. So what? The truth is the truth. What is your substance?

Dude? lol. What is my substance? Let me tell you. No matter what group you may work for in Portland, I buy your radio stations; some quite substanitially, some not at all. I know your rates, the rates offered by your sales staff and managment probably better than you do. What does ths actually mean? It means I know how much your coworkers actually value your propoerties. In the past year and a half, I have never seen more "pants dropping" in any market than Portland. Constant Fire Sales, but one get two free, total stations thrown in for free, etc and etc and this is at your station because it has been constant with whatever competitor you do work for. What this mean is that your co-workers really don't value your product very well at all. This tells me what type of confidence they have in their product and whether they feel the product is actually getter better.
The point - you have far more problems in house than to spend your time with blatent, malicious posts about your competitor.

Dude, you make me--and my colleagues--laugh out loud. You think listeners really give a fat rat's arse about rates, BIA or fire sales? Sure, sure, you're important. But you're insignificant to the people who actually make the ratings, and that's the people who listen. You're a bean counter. I, and my on-air colleagues, are the personalities that people care about. It doesn't matter what group I work for. Hey, maybe did you think I used to be part of, or are soon to leave, your oh-so-important revenue generator? We've seen you before, we'll see you again, and in a couple years, we won't be able to remember your name. But the listeners will remember us, because we'll still be here. See ya, dude.

I don't think you can compare the two jack experiments - having had some inside experience with the format having helped to launch one, myself - 'MGX was going from a pseudo-hot ac angle - the classic rock titles would just confuse the kelly clarkson, sugar ray set...the Jack format is centered around classic rock/classic hits (about 5-6 titles per hour) and expands from there...a transition that would be a lot easier to make with a station that has already attracted the casual classic rock crowd...

need proof??? Look at MP103 vs. Champ and IZN (with or without Howard) in BUrlington- a pretty good start to the station - whether or not the trend continues

Wow! I'd like to nominate you for the Dumb As A Bag Of Nails Hall of Fame. Are you kidding me? You ACTUALLY work in this biz and could seriously post something like THAT?

Lemme give you some schoolin' here:

1) Listeners do NOT hang on your every word. They really DON'T care about you. They care about hearing what they want, when they want. It doesn't matter who's playing their favorite song, so long as that DJ isn't wasting the listener's time. For God's sake get over yourself!
2) The people who "make up the ratings" represent a tiny percentage of the potential audience at any given moment.
3) The people who BUY advertising are not the "bean counters". The people who bill the said buyers are.
4) If you don't work for Nassau many ad buyers have already forgotten YOUR name.
5) Never credit the listeners to remember anything more than their own first name, let alone yours - or your stations. That's how it is, dude.

Will you still be here? Maybe. But so will Frank. The station remains a must buy (still top 3, 25-54), and, it has a great 4 book track record.

I applaud you for being such a cheerleader for whichever runner up you work for, but those of us who shop and buy your brands are interested in one thing: results. I (and apparently adbuyer1) have no problem paying a premium for quality. Right now the premium is going to Frank & Company.

Now, let's all crack a cold one and wait to see how Underminer lashes out in the face of even more logic.

Hi ECPI,

I'm not trying to start a pi$$ing match here but, I though you posted a few posts back that you don't work for Nassau? Every post that I have seen from you seems to point in the direction that you do. If you do, why are you so frightened to admit working for them? If you don't work for them, please carry on.

No attack intended. Just asking.... :)

Earthy--

The Red Sox will probably finish in the top three too. Your point?

You speak of a great four-book track record?? Frank has gone down in EVERY SINGLE book since their big debut. Compare the spring 04 to the latest and it appears they've lost nearly HALF their listeners! With a trend like that, they'll be lucky to pull a three share if they make it to 2008. If I were buying time on Frank i'd feel cheated. Word on the street is Frank is hemmorhaging sales people too. What does that say?

Proof positive that buying on WBLM is a better value, their listners are much more passionate about their station that those of Frank. They stopped by for a while, sure, but the same 150 songs got old and now they're coming back to 'BLM.

I'll give Frank credit for making a big impression when they started, but maintaining those listeners has been one of the most colossal failures in New England radio in this millenium.

Oh, and i dont think i'm the only one that notices that Bill Fox is "off" this week.

I hope the Captain treated his staff to a nice dinner out or something, they all deserve it.

Earthling--

Your silence speaks volume.

I rest my above-stated case.

Not that it matters, but I've been away on vacation (meaning that I have better things to do than slam, bitch and slander on this board). I don't work for Nassau but I do believe in their methods and operations. Of the three big players in the Portland market they come closer to getting it right than their competitors. That's my opinion, and, I'm as entitled to it as anyone else here.

Oh, and that would be "volumes" not "volume".

Have a nice day.

I agree.

Now here's your chance to get in with a company that's doing it right. I hear there's a mid-day position open. Hope you get the job.  :)

Oh, and I hope you had a nice vacation.

Ah, Labor Day Weeekend, the greatest drinking holiday between Fourth of July and Oktoberfest!

I see the coroners are apparently standing by waiting for the death of one radio entity called Francis! No need to prepare the body bag yet...

While Frank appears to have come "down to earth" i doubt the last book means the end for Frank, if anything they'll find a way to regroup, counterprogram and compete, like rival stations in any other market. It's not like they have ratings like that rap station, forget the name!

Three-Fer and Underminer sound as if their cold Heinekens were replaced by nice warm cans of Old Milwaukee! Cheer up friends, you'll find real radio jobs someday!

In any case, i'll be hanging out at Preble St. trolling for cans, save me your empties from your weekend celebrations!

Love and vomit,
Old Port Wino
