Frank-FM new call letters

I just heard the new call letters at the top of the hour on 107.5 Frank-FM. They were changed from WBYN to WFKB. With the call letter change and adding commercials, it looks like it's safe to say that Frank is here to stay. I suppose Mussels comment "The Wolf is at the Door 04 01 06" was just what it reads, an April Fools Joke.

I would now guess so - April Fool's is an easy way out, unless they are planning to flip WSBG or WWYY, or adding an HD channel, or buying or LMAing another station. Or maybe they're launching a Wolf in another market - didn't say it was here in the email.

Or it could be for WFKB- Whattya Friggin Kidding!!! Bogus!!!

LOL. this has to be one of the worst formats i have heard in a long time.. and what a waste to focus on reading only! There is a much larger advertisng potential in the suburbs of philly and the lehigh valley with such a good signal. My prediction give it a year and it will be back to regilious.. WBYN. also they sure wont lure T 102 folks away with that crap they play.

I grew up 8 miles from that transmitter. I remember how different "KB" was from most of Buffalo's other radio stations at that time.

They're going CHR and focusing on the Lehigh Valley. It stands for "F**K B". :)

Why any station would choose to put the letters F and K next to each other in calls is beyond me.

Doesn't beat the station on 101.5 in Chambersburg though. Nassau signed on a Classic Hits station named Eagle, and another company signed on a Classic Rocker named Eagle at the same time. Nassau send over a cease-and-desist so the other company, so 101.5 stopped calling itself Eagle and changed call letters to WFYN, for "F You Nassau".

Frank FM Problems with Commercials

There is another reason to think that 107.5 Frank FM won’t last in Berks. News on the street has it that the old listeners to 107.5 Alive are rebelling and calling all of the advertisers to register their complaints. Nassau has not clashed with ardent listeners before in its reformatting take-overs. Frank may suck some unaware advertisers in by cheap rates, but that only lasts until advertisers find out that Frank comes with serious built in problems. Frank is not only “commercial free from 9 till noon”—so far it’s completely commercial free and that won’t pay the bills!> >

As I said in a different thread, I doubt many former WBYN-FM advertisers are targeting the WFKB demographic anyway. WFIL continues to expand its billboard outreach -- the new stadium-style LED billboard on US 222 SB between rts. 61 & 183 has the WFIL billboard among those in the ad rotation.

The bigger problem for WFKB would be with unduplicated listeners -- WFKB will have to show that people who listen to them don't listen to WIOV or WRFY. They will have to show that they took more listeners away from WODE, WMGK or WRVV than these other two.

Former WBYN-FM listeners should vent their invective at WDAC, if at anyone. They're the ones who sold the station.

I agree. The listeners should direct their frustrations at WDAC. Nassau is just doing what big radio companies do. WDAC simply took the best money deal without fully considering what Nassau would do with it. (either that or they knew exactly what Nassau would do with it and didn't care.)

I know the folks who are still with the station and they are STILL being inundated with dissatisfied listener calls. These folks are as much victims in this as the listeners. I wish some of these calls could be deflected from these people and redirected to Lancaster but I'm sure they are being instructed not to mention WDAC to the callers.

The Boyertown Times had an article last week about the change and had quotes from the management that I simply can't believe. John White, Station/sales Manager of WBYN said that this change has expanded their coverage area. Does he really believe that? Between the two AM stations, there is a gap where most of the listeners and former sponsors live, not to mention the outlying areas in the south through northern Chester and Delaware Counties.

Does anyone know if there has been any listener backlash in the Lehigh Valley, or are the people up there satisfied with WBYN-AM?

I live in Allentown, and I would surmise that WJCS is the more likely beneficiary, since WBYN and WJCS have similar programming, and WJCS is an FM station.

WBYN AM comes in OK down in Allentown, especially during the day; evenings are tougher.

WJCS is applying for translators in New Tripoli and Bangor; the New Tripoli translator would serve the expanding northwestern Lehigh communities, and would also improve its positioning vs. WBYN-AM.

WJCS also duplicates some WBYN programming, with Turning Point, In Touch, Insight for Living, and Unshackled.

I know of no mass outcry, but I suspect the demographics of our church are more in the WBYO ("Word FM") camp anyway.

Re: Frank FM Problems with Commercials

I’m in the Reading Area and the reception for WBYN AM is terrible. The Nassau people may think they threw us a sop with 1160, but that only makes the folks in our area even more antagonistic toward Frank. I hope Frank knows what he is getting into as a result of the switch.
