JELINEK
FRANK H., on Feb, 23, 2006, beloved husband of Mary (nee Molnari) of Upper Providence, dear father of Barbara Jelinek Thayer, Christine Jelinek Norris and David C. Jelinek; also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Wed. 12 Noon in the Media Presbyterian Church, Baltimore Ave., Media where his family will receive friends after 11 A.M. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers, expression in sympathy in the form of memorial gifts to the Salvation Army, PO Box 1032, Brookhaven PA 19015 would be preferred.

I wasn't a listener but knew some older folks who never missed the show and followed it through the station changes. Wonder if the retirement was brought on by more than just the WPEN format change - was he ill, or was this sudden? At least he got to have a last show and got to hear all the on-air tributes from his many fans. Even though he's off the air it's a sad notice of another well-known voice from Philadelphia radio history silenced.

Considering he retired just about 5 months ago and had a 30 year history as a radio voice here, couldn't somebody at the Inquirer pick up on this and do a full obituary, not just a funeral notice? Guess with all the staff cutbacks there's nobody left to cover this.

Surprising and sad news. I didn't even know he had retired, let alone die. When did the Frank and Mary "Dining Around" show end? I was under the impression "Dining Around" stayed on the sports formatted station. Guess not. RIP Frank. My dad was a loyal fan when they were on WWDB and was heartbroken when the show moved to WPEN, a station he cannot get where he lives. He'll be sad to hear he died.

First, the Inquirer has now run an obituary today (Monday) - he died of congestive heart failure. The show ended on WPEN on October 1 before the sports talk format change. The Sunday financial shows and a few others stayed on, but others were dropped. I wonder if his health issues stopped them from persuing continuing the show in some form on WPEN or elsewhere. There are a number of stations where they could have bought time to continue. As I said, he did get to have an on-air tribute from all the loyal fans calling in on the last show, so he left knowing how much his fans enjoyed the show.
