Frank Ski to Kiss for Mornings

It appears there was a method to Kiss 104.1's madness in letting go their previous morning show. All Access is reporting that longtime V-103 morning host Frank Ski will take over mornings on Kiss on February 1.

Sounds live a great move for Kiss.

Here's my story. Frank Ski joins Kiss 104.1 as morning host

From what I've heard, V-103 likely gave Frank such an insulting offer to re-up, he walked. I have no idea if Kiss was able to pay him even what V-103 offered. But on the bright side, he's now at a station where he is now more age compatible. I'm sure he hopes this won't play out like Steve McCoy 11 years ago...

I think Steve McCoy was a somewhat different situation. B98.5 seemed to hire Steve & Vikki without really thinking it through. When the show came on, the amount of talk was not compatible with B98.5's format, even in the morning. Remember, Bob Neal was still president of Cox Radio, and he had developed what was then the station's clock. The show created cognitive dissonance for Neal, and that apparently led to a conflict between Steve and management; Steve wanted to do all of the things he and Vikki had done at Star 94.

I have no idea how much freedom Frank Ski will have on his show on Kiss and whether he'll be able to do what he did on V-103. I also got more insight into Frank's situation. I heard that high-salaried people at Entercom were asked to take pay cuts mid contract during COVID. Most employees complied. Frank did not. But he also knew he had aged out of the key 25-54 demo V-103 was chasing so going to Kiss was certainly a safer bet for longer-term job security.

I haven’t listened to KISS 104.1 in years. Aren’t they like the #1 urban station in town right now without a morning show?

This deal was in the works since before Frank left V103. He had to wait out his non compete. Frank aged out of the 18-34 demo, and didnt really gel with his new cohosts after Wanda left. Kiss is a much better fit for him.

Mornings are one of Kiss’ worst ranked dayparts. They do much better the rest of the day. This should provide a boost. WHUR is way up in afternoons since Ski took over. They’ve beaten Majic the last several months. WMMJ was on top for a couple of years before that. V103’s numbers are way down since Ski left. Its clear that Ski was a big part of their success.

Never can say good bye. Make you wonder about all the hype of radio GOODBYES..... if the talent returns later. Don't be fooled all the hype.
