Franken FM End Date: 7/13/21

There's also WPGF-LP 6 in Memphis, which had been simulcasting WHBQ AM 560 (Sports talk) but switched to Christmas music during the season and classic rock since then. I'm not sure what their plans for post 7-13 are though.

WJMF-LP applied recently for digital flash cut, so they will shut down their analog operation. It appears that WPGF-LP is doing the same.

WPGF-LP is owned by Dr. George Flinn, who owns several stations in Memphis, and I can see them moving the format to another station, possibly one of the AM/FM translator combos, if they decide to keep it going.

The STA was issued because Venture is going ATSC V3, which can probably tolerate an analog FM carrier since OFDM can be decoded with on channel interference up to -1dbC. This would not work with 8VSB since decoders mute with a -15dbC in the channel. This would push the analog signal to less than 100w ERP but with V3, the analog may stay at close to 3kw ERP. BUT the question now is how many people have V3 decoders? Almost NOONE. SO WHO will be watching the TV signal?? Other than the station itself, noone. No 8VSB for those wanting to watch channel but the the FM aural carrier will be muting the decoders...so it's a total loss for TV folks....and someone gets a FM audio channel without the usual legal way of applying, auction, fees, etc...I find it disgusting myself

KZNO-LP (Guadalupe Radio-TV) in the L.A. area is off the air.

I wonder if any Franken-FMs will be rolling the dice and staying on the air after Tuesday, and how long it will take the FCC to notice and pursue action against them.

That’s weird. On my way to work this afternoon, I tuned my car radio to 87.7 FM and still heard the station. How can this be?
Are you sure it was Guadalupe (Spanish religious) and not a pirate which has swooped in and begun using the frequency?

If you're sure it was KZNO-LP, then they must now be either transmitting only an analog audio carrier, or a digital TV signal plus an analog audio carrier. I think an analog TV would still be able to receive the audio carrier even if no video signal is present -- at least on older ones which don't blank out to a blue screen. But when Shango tuned in and took that photo, they were off the air entirely.

CW, why are you so preoccupied with this? Is it because you are jeolous of someone who will soon have an analog FM on KCVH?

WJMF-LP (87-7 The Bridge; soon to be 94-3 The Bridge?) is scheduled to sign off at midnight tonight. However, its format (classic hits) has already moved to WZQK (1240) and W232DD (94.3).
