Franklin a factor?

To anyone who has access to this type of info, has the station in Franklin that picked up the oldies format that 104.5 used to have, had any impact on Indy?

Trends don't come out for a while. Even then they haven't been on long enough to really show up. Diary placement is also important. More Southside diaries, better chance they will show.

There haven't been any arbs released since then, but many of us doubt that there will be much of an impact...signal is nowhere near city-grade for much of Indy

WIAU definitely has to depend on those southside diaries. The signal deteriorates substantially in downtown Indianapolis (probably due to interference caused by WHHH's tower being right there) and is virtually non-existent on the northside. This is probably why the station was always in mono in their urban Gospel and news/talk days.

Due to the absence of oldies on the rest of the Indy dial, they might see a slight boost (much like they did when they were the only CCM station in town), but they'll never get the ratings that the former WGLD once did.

New Arbs are at indianaairwaves.net The "price" of gold went down ;)

No doubt, there is a big 5 on the table for oldies. With their
signal people have to work a little harder to receive them.
I'll bet they are not paying for that certain ratings service
and are being cheated out of a point or 2 as well.

I'm sorry, but respectfully, I've never believed that reason for low ratings. Which brings up something I've always wanted to ask. Is there any evidence, other than hearsay perhaps, of a non-subscriber that gained dramatically after buying the book? Or for that matter, of a subscriber that dropped after dropping Arbitron?

Let's just say this company buys the book. The sales staff would rebel if
they didn't have this important tool.
When I was in Columbus, Ohio-there were 2 companies that did ratings.
They never agreed on station rankings.
Has anyone ever heard of WIIZ in Lafayette, Indiana? They made a 4
in the book after they were off the air for 6 months. So do I believe
ratings? No. But, I have no choice. I play the game by their rules.

That wasn't my question. You implied that if you don't buy the book, you don't get the numbers. Again, respectfully, I've never seen any supporting evidence - the slightest of which would bring an investigation. I don't buy Arbitron as gospel. Nor did I Birch. Though I can name a station that never signed a contract with Birch, yet led them 12+ month to month - as well as one who, despite a long term contract with Arbitron, never topped a one share. Thanks for the reply.

I once worked for a station that did not subscribe to the ratings service. The ratings company sent 2 of their reps to our station to talk to the GM about the benefit of subscribing to their service. The GM himself told me that the reps told him that the station would be pleased with the resultant changes in our ratings if we were to subscribe. Station ownership still said NO but based upon the "presentation" made to the GM, I agree with Tired Old Dog.

15 grand for ratings? Maybe they bill this in two months...
