Fred Armstrong puts WCSI DJ in Jail

( 1984-1985) Dave Michaels is doing mornings
on WCSI radio ( both stations ) .
Mary Liz introduced Dave to Officer Fred Armstrong
of the Columbus Police Dept. MAry does News !

Dave over a period of a year would drop Freds'
name on the morning show as in : he is at the
donut shop stuffing his face; he arrested a old
lady for j-walking; his boss lets him keep one
bullet ( like Barney ), but its locked up in the
Police cars glove department.

One morning while the news is on ( so goes the
story ) ; Dave is talking to Fred, and recording
the phone call . Fred is telling him about hunting
over the weekend with buddies and trying to
get a deer. Dave asks Fred; if he can play this
back on the air, and Fred says No ! Dave plays
it over the beginning of "Papa was a rolling stone"
by the temptations and Fred is upset. Fred tells
Dave; I will get you for this .

Days go bye.......and Dave is driving home from the
radio station when he is pulled over by the Col. police
department; asked to show ID, and is handcuffed and
put in the back of the Police Car and taken to the
station and locked up in a cell in the basement !

After sitting in the cell for 20 minutes ; Mike King and
Fred Armstrong walk in laughing , and let Dave out of
the cell. This was Freds' pay back to Dave. True Story.
Dave Made Fred famous ; its probably why he was
elected Mayor of Columbus, Indiana instead of Sam
Simmermaker; whom without a doubt is the most famous
Radio Person in the City ever ! I vote for Sam .

Sorry. If this is a copy of what happened to me then Fred has done it twice. I think the poster may be confused.

Yes we joked about Fred on the air and it was a lot of fun until the day....

Two officers show up (at the Washington Street studio at 10 am with the business office in full swing) with a warrant for my arrest. Fake arrest order for unpaid parking tickets. They don't put me in handcuffs but say they will if I try to make a run for it...

Taken to the drunk tank, locked up, and they flush toilets that drain next to the tank for what seemed like hours. Mike, Mary liz, and Fred then come to open the cell. I do have pictures.

And Mike didn't have much hair then, thus the term, "baldy".

That is choice! Nice long intro and what a song to use!
