Virgil Petrie here. An old friend of Fred.
I'm sorry to announce the passing of my dear friend Fred Holub on December 15th. As some of you may already know, Fred had been ill for sometime forcing his retirement from the broadcasting scene he loved so well.
I'd like everyone to know that his passing while unexpected, was painless and peaceful. He had been happy (despite his illness) to be living back in the Sacramento Delta where he grew up. The little town of Walnut Grove embraced him and cared for him (I know this firsthand). I and Curt Hemmings family just spent a marvelous Thanksgiving with him in November. He had just returned from a dream trip to the Hawaiian Islands when he passed. I like to think he was at peace.
His mother Margaret plans to scatter his ashes in the delta in a favorite spot on Saturday the 19th of Januaray at two pm. She requests that everyone that knew him pause at that time and think of him.
R.I.P. Fred. We miss you buddy.
Sincerly, Virgil Petrie
