WMGK To Offer Free Beer And Hot Wings

Mmmmmm Free Beer
GRAND RAPIDS-based syndicated morning show FREE BEER AND HOT WINGS returns to the DELAWARE VALLEY as GREATER MEDIA Classic Rock WMGK/PHILADELPHIA adds the show on a tape-delay basis for 10p-1a ET starting JULY 30. The show was previously heard in the market on Classic Rock WTHK (THE HAWK)/TRENTON before GREATER MEDIA bought that station (now moved into the PHILADELPHIA market) from NASSAU and flipped it to Jazz as WJJZ.

GREGG "FREE BEER" DANIELS, CHRIS "HOT WINGS" MICHELS, and ERIC ZANE are now heard on 15 stations nationwide.

All i can ask is WHY ???

When I first saw this thread title on the grid, I assumed Mike was playing a joke.

I guess we spoke too soon on that other thread.

I am at a loss for words. What a shame remaining Philadelphia terrestrial radio listeners lose the diverse rock Alice Cooper played for a small-market out-of-town morning show on a 16-hour tape delay. This makes that "Loveline" on WYSP sound appealing.

Thank God for broadband and satellite.

Please tell me Koob doesn't have to board-op this $hit.

Public message to the Radio Racket "I" Team-- please find out who's being paid off for this.

FB&HW replaced Bob & Tom on WBUZ Nashville several months ago when B&T flipped to another station. I think it's a major improvement over what was there before. If WMGK decided to start giving out gold coins from the front doors between 10:30PM and 1AM, someone would jump on here and complain. The show makes stations $$ and that's what counts. It wouldn't make money if they weren't doing something right.

I can't tell you that. However I do wonder if the move is related to the upcoming departure of John Debella sidekick/producer Giant Brian, whose last day is July 27. FBHW starts 7/30 on TD (IN HD!) ;D Anyway, Brian is doing the new morning show in Atlanta on CC-er WKLS. I wonder if Greater Media had offered him the 10A-1P slot on MGK in addition to his Debella duties.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ MORE BORING RADIO DISGUISED AS COMEDY!!!! HEY INSTEAD, HOW ABOUT A DEEP TRACKS SHOW. THREE HOURS OF LESSER PLAYED ALBUM CUTS. OH SORRY, THAT WOULD BE TOO EASY!!!!

Free Beer & Hot Wings? Ya gotta be kidding. Don't nitwits have enough radio to listen to already? Another 3 hours of stupidity that dopes call gripping radio.

Can't wait for the other shoe to drop - i.e. "The New 102.9 THE HAWK"!

That Would Be Too Good To Be True.

And FBHW Is The Best. But I'll Still Listen To Them On 105 B/C It's In The Morning. But Hey At Least MGK Is Making Another Good Move After Bringing Get The Led Out Back. And With FRANK (Northern Outskirts) In The Mix Kicking Ass Along With 105.7 (Eastern Outskirts), They Should Bring Some Of The Slightly Heavier Rock Into The Mix, But Hey, Thats Just Me So Who Gives A Shit. I Still Have To Give MGK Some Credit For At Least For Bringing FBHW Back To The Area. It Would Be Better In The Morning, But Debella Is On Then, So Im Just Looking At It As Were Lucky To Have It Back On A Station That Covers All 70 Miles Outside Of Philadelphia.

Please don't capitalize every word...

It says a lot that they practically graveyarded the show. Who cares.

Please

Thank God I'm not the only one who realized the "Free Beer" apologist capitalized every word. (For what reason, I don't know.)

I have my theories on why this decision was made. Maybe I'll present them tomorrow night if there's time.

Shame on the trades who don't realize "The HawK" (on 97.5) was not a Philadelphia station. Those morning guys aren't returning to Philly; they were on a Trenton station to begin with. Poll a hundred regular (i.e., non-radio) people in the Delaware Valley and I'll be shocked if even one has heard of these guys.

Here's one: To lock it up contractually.

Great, as if Philly radio isn't bad enough already from what I've heard of it in the past day and half of being on vacation in the area.

Yeah, it's a wasteland. We've got WXPN at 88.5 (AAA from the Univ. of Pa.) and WJJZ at 97.5 (Smooth Jazz) and that's about it.

It depends what you like. If you like rhythmic music, it's actually pretty good - especially when compared with a rock-heavy market such as Boston. The oldies station here is also better than most - IMO.

On the other hand, rock and issues talk are still pretty weak. Nonetheless, this market has more musical variety than New York, Boston or Washington. Despite WMGK's bad decision about FB&HW - which is simply a dumb programming move by GM.

they should leave the current WMGK schedule the way it is . Alice Cooper didn't do too well on MGK ratings wise, Why would GM think that this show would have better ratings than Alice.

Free Beer and Hot Wings is arguably the worst syndicated morning show in history...after Bob and Tom and Rick and Bubba.
If what you are saying is true, then WMGK should not be airing this program correct?
