Free FM 101.4?

I'm unsure exactly where to post this one...

While searching registered domains containing "freefm", I noticed CBS has just registered the domain "freefm1014.com". On the one hand, the domains "freefmphoenix" and "phoenixfreefm" were also registered around the same time; of course, they transmit on 101.5 FM. Plus, everybody knows that, at least here in the U.S., FM radio stations' frequencies end at odd numbers. Which made me wonder if this could be a future domain for a possible HD station? All I know is, the fact CBS registered the domain raises eyebrows.
______________

To me, it appears that Carmine Jichetti (the CBS IT contact) registered the wrong domain by mistake.

Quite interesting in that the domain freefm1015 is still available.
______________

Let's see how long it takes for cybersquatters to get it... or for CBS to notice.

Actually, perhaps one of the Radio-Info mods might be interested in redirecting some Free FM traffic to the Phoenix board? If CBS has been preparing, perhaps there are some promos already made, asking listeners to " visit 1015freefm.com".

What if it's a station in the UK or Australia that's just using the same slogan or planning to? I don't think someone at CBS would make this mistake.

Except for this on the domain WHOIS record:

Registrant:
Infinity Broadcasting Corporation
1515 Broadway
Attn Carmine Jichetti
New York, NY 10306
US

It looks like it was registered on 12/16.

Infinity has been known to make many mistakes, especially in Market 1. It blew up a high-rated oldies station to put the Jack format on it, and Jack's ratings aren't even half of the oldies format's ratings.

All right, this is NOT going to become a hijacked thread.

If you want to discuss the format flip of WCBS-FM, go to Oldies or the New York City board.
______________

Besides, what does a very insignificant typo on a domain registration have to do with a format change in NYC, anyway? :D

It's a pretty significant typo, actually, since it renders the URL pretty much useless.

I know the Phoenix Free FM is on 101.5, but does Infinity own any 101.3's anywhere? This could easily have been for them as well.

They own an AC in Rochester on 101.3. But as other Phoenix related domains were registered at the same time, it's almost certain where "1014" was headed.

I am by no means a conspiracy theorist, but 1014 could just as easily be a typo for 1041. As in WBCN/Boston. I honestly don't think they'll flip to Free FM.

Still...

Wasn't thinking of that one... though freefmphoenix.com was registered at the same time as freefm1014.com. If only Greater Media's Jeff Messerman hadn't hogged up all of the domains for WBCN as a Free FM, we'd probably have a better sense of what's going on there.

(though Messerman did leave the domains for a 100.7 Free FM up for grabs; but, in any case, it's not as though a Free FM from CBS Radio would give too much competition toward the political talk over on 96.9.)

By the way, in addition to freefm1067.com, Infinity registered freefmportland.com back in October. Any ideas as to whether Infinity is keeping the AC format on KLTH, or was the domain registered as with Tampa Bay, where 925freefm.com was never used?

Re: All CBS Radio stations; Free FM Portland

Since Infinity was renamed CBS Radio and the company's main website was relaunched, it also means the station listing on the website has been updated to reflect all current formats:
http://www.cbsradio.com/stations/index.php
Hopefully, this'll help with questions about what they own on what frequency.

There's a (currently) short discussion of both freefm1067.com and freefmportland.com on the Oregon board (just posting this link here in hopes to grow the Oregon board):
http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Post=617023&Board=oregon

One last thought: maybe some of the domains registered were to throw those of us radio message board speculators off. I have no clue if this is true or not, but it has happened before, and not just with radio.
______________
