Free FM and KZON why not?

KZON hasn't particularly done well in the ratings. They have competition with another alternative in town The Edge. I think the timing is right for KZON to take it Free. Check out this:

Mornings They already have promos airing for Corolla to start in January

Middays Crazy Kid or Kid and Ruben Kiss FM in phoenix just posted on his website he will not agree to the Clear channel demands he must put on his show on KISS. He says he will find a new home for his show, well how bout Middays on Free FM phoenix? Kinda like having Jamie, Frosty, and Frank in L.A. middays

Afternoons Tom Leykis or Don and Mike, take your pick

Nights Not sure who to fill the void but would be great to have a local show maybe keep Fat Head and Collin Boyd

Overnights Jeff and John

I also think the market is hungry for FM Talk. How much political talk can one city take. All the AM stations doing political talk, I think this would be a home run winner. Also, they could still keep some music programming as well. Well thats my two cents

Let's get our host names straight... Frosty, ->Heidi<-, and Frank. They have said they are presently limited to being a Cali show on KLSX/KSCF (not KIFR/SF), but Infinity could throw them on another station.

Don and Mike... God save us. They lasted all of about two days in Tucson, and market #62 is more their style than #15 (save flagship market DC).

Phil Hendrie?

John and Jeff. Find myself listening more and more on my XM; IMHO, WTKK/Boston has the right idea... they're the best alternative to C2C for any talk format, and a good fit for FM.

With the discussion about Bob Mohan recently, the format could have been put on KFNX last year and achieved some success. Imus and Leykis were on 1100 a few years back, and you'd get at least half of Tom's show on the 50kW pattern, all of it in the summer. The format will work on AM if done right; Leykis has achieve double-digit shares among his target demos when he was on Max 910 in Portland until 10 months ago (5kW/5kW)... problem is, everyone other daypart sucked (including D&M). Also, he has done very well in PMD on KXL, and is currently the only reason the AM All Comedy station there has any ratings at all.

Which leads me to think... if KZON went talk (which it won't), they could pick up ACR for 4-6am, middays, weekends, and general fill, and let 1480 go back to being a useful format. Reggae perhaps.

I would think that with Corolla mornings, Don & Mike middays, Phil Hendrie afternoons & Tom Leykis evenings they could pull more share than they're doing now which is to simply mimick what people can already hear presented better (albeit w/ a weaker signal) over at 103.9.

That lineup smells like a 1.9 to me.

Don & Mike don't generally play well outside of DC.
Leykis doesn't do much outside of LA and Seattle.
Corolla is an unknown variable. He could be great, he could really suck. We just don't know yet.

Besides, the last thing this town needs is another syndicated talk program.<P ID="signature">______________

Exactly thats why I say get Kid and Ruben. Kid said they are not staying with Kiss FM once January comes so why not. They are local, they got a fan base already in the valley, they could generate numbers.

Hendrie on a 21-hour delay... fantastic. I'll listen to yesterday's show on XM if I'm in the car, but before 7pm or so, it just seems too earlier for that kind of show. Leykis is live 3-7/4-8p.

And Dallas. Kind of-sort of Portland. For a guy with very few solid stations, he has an (alleged) 1.5M listeners.

Leykis doesn't do well because he's on 500w AMs. It's not like he's in a format with 1,500 stations like Rush or Hannity. I think we'll see stronger numbers in San Diego with him on 103.9 and also in SF if they keep the format for more than six months. It's just not fair to judge his performance when he's on delay following Jim Cramer (Salisbury), on a 4-watt night pattern (Pittsburgh), or his latest lost affil, KTBL/Albuquerque, which had him following Bill O'Reilly and Michael Medved. And he typically has the highest ratings on any hot talk station he's on; whether the rest of the format sucks and won't support an entire station, hence killing his potential, is another story.
