FREE FM Chicago bites the dust?

If Live 105.3 flips it seems that KLLI will have the same delimma with Russ Martin that WCKG does with Steve Dahl.

With ratings in the dumps, all signs point to a format change at WCKG

If you ask insiders at WCKG-FM (105.9) about changes to the station's format, they'll tell you it's no longer a question of "if" but "when."

Closed-door meetings at the CBS Radio talk station this week combined with format flips at a number of other former "Free FM" outlets in the company strongly point to a makeover of WCKG sooner rather than later.

The topic is misleading, since 105.9 no longer calls themselves "Free FM" but just plain "105.9 WCKG". Some of the sister FM talkers like WJFK in D.C. and WYSP in its latter days simply dropped the Free-FM branding.

Just found out that the domain name "Fresh1059.com" was purchased yesterday and the owner wishes to remain private. This was my guess months ago. BTW, WCKG calls itself "the package" now and prior to the "free fm" debacle. Insert inappropriate joke here.

And the Radio-Info police hasn't truncated that? What is this world coming to? ;D

It seems as though the domains of Fresh1039.com,1049,1069, have all been purchased by the same individual. I highly doubt that the lady who made the purchase is cyber-squatting on all those domains. That would be a rather expenive squat. The timing of the purchase is interesting too. The day before the article in the Sun-Times titled, "Deathwatch" appeared.

At $8 a year (or less from some Registrars), you think $24 for three domains would be an expensive squat?

Purchasing every possible frequency would be a drop in the bucket for many squatters.

And, because it was registered the day a newspaper story appeared, it's possible somebody registered the names after reading the story.

In the same way that the domain www.donttasermebro.com was registered just hours after the guy was recently caught on tape yelling "Don't taser me, bro". Or www.runojrun.com being registered just after the recent OJ story.

I did it with www.pardonscooter.com. That fell apart. But I'm only out $16.
