Free FM done in San Francisco

I think CBS is using the name "Classic Hits" as a synonym for "Oldies" in this case. Which begs the question: If a format and calls like that can come back to San Francisco, can't CBS FM come back to New York, also on Free FM, or Maybe something a bit, er "fresher?"

Maybe 92.3 could be 92.3 The Buzz everything that ROCKS!. they would lean heavy on the alternative and active rock, and throw in some classic tunes, that 104.3 doesn't overplay. Just a thought since the krock moniker is dead in the water.

Hardrock I think if they go back to playig music the smartest thing would be to just bring back the "krock" moniker as it's well established and well known to the point were I heard Brad maybe last weekend while on air call it "Krock" and not "free fm"

::)

How about this notion? Bring back alternative rock to 92.3 and migrate the WNEW calls back from West Palm Beach. While it's not the true 102.7 spot nothing means rock in NYC better than WNEW. It could still play alternative rock, just use those "tried and true" slogans like "The place where rock lives". I'm not talking veteran jocks here either, there are plenty of new guys and girls out there who deserve a shot. But heck, why not?

oh man...
you guys should hear the 99.9 the Buzz in Burlington VT,
It is a very good alternative station. I hear it up at college in The NEK-VT as well as 105.1 WTOS-FM in Maine.

I wish they could bring the WXRK call letters back from Cleveland, Ohio to New York. I found this link:

Maybe this should bring the Cleveland's K-Rock logo back.

WFNY is a total mess. A station without a direction. All the Free FM's are flipping all over the place and WFNY is standing with a 1.3 share.....Nice move Tom C.....And John M....You guys are doing a great job of effing up a major station....Good luck in your new jobs somewhere in radio...Alaska I would think.

Tony for starters Free FM's are not flipping all over. One Flipped in SF to music and CKG in CHicago is still talking but just not using the Free Fm name. Second of all Tom C and John Manelli? since there are several Free Fm's and it was a national branding move (as bad a move as it might have been the key words are national) meaning it was a cbs company decision. Tom C did not do it neither did John Manelli. You cannot blame those two for being handed a station that did not work from it's inception!. Have they even had a complete line up since they started? Roth?, fired Jake and Jackie? fired, I dont think they were ever replaced either leaving revolving door, Booker quit went to Philly, Cramer stopped doing the show, Penn Gillette? stopped doing the show or was cancelled I dont know which one, Dog house? fired. On top of it all this was never a great lineup in the first place. I'm usually not one to defend the suits but you cannot blame guys like Tom C and Manelli for that sitaution.

Penn spontaneously announced he was quitting his show on what turned out to be his last show; happened earlier this year. As for Cramer, I believe CBS canned him.
