Free FM in Cincinnati

Could this format come to one of the CBS Radio stations here? I heard Rover this week on 97.3 and wasn't impressed at all with the show so far. WGRR would make sense if it were to happen. The oldies listener in the upper demos while Free FM would get a younger audience.

Rover sucks. Roth really sucks. Too bad they couldn't syndicate Corrola nationwide as he is the only one of the three with any real talent.

I haven't listened to Roth or Rover yet, but Adam's show is pretty good. If CBS doesn't give Cincinnati a Free FM, they should simulcast KLSX on one of their HD2 channels.

HD radio is going to be the biggest bomb since New Coke. Yes it may taste better but no one is going to buy it. Furthermore radio is shooting themselves in the foot with these radio should be free ads. When they begin marketing the HD stations how are they going to get listeners to purchase the expensive HD radio equipment? Now throw in corporate America...what is the return on HD radio? How will these new signals make money to bring a return on the investment and value to the shareholders? Market share is no longer an added benefit for the HD side channels from the company's standpoint, as the markets are made up of oligopolies, duopolies, and in some cases, monopolies. Until a reciever is made that is XM, Sirius, and HD radio ready I just don't see it ever succeeding.

I agree. Satellite beat terrestrial HD to the punch. There's no real incentive to get the radios.

Even if Sat didn't beat terrestrial to the punch I'm not sure the demand would be there. Is there that much difference in the audio quality that the average listener would notice or care? HDTV is night and day, I'm not sure digital audio would be that much of an improvement to where you'd have people replace their 15 dollar radios with 150 dollar radios.

I'll agree that digital FM probably won't be a huge improvement, but FM multicasts and improved AM could be great. It could slow down the jump to satellite. My wife wanted an 80's station. If we lived in Chicago, she'd have it for free on HD2. It would be a perfect fit for Q102's HD2, or Mix. Now she has Sirius. If GRR ever flips, put oldies on HD2. I want Adam Carolla & Free FM. Put it up with 97.3. Cincinnati needs a classic rock station that doesn't play Gordon Lightfoot. Bring back 96 Rock on 96.5 HD2. Run the HD2's on auto pilot until they make money.

The radios aren't really that expensive, and are bound to come down. My HD cost less than any of the 3 radios I previously purchased. My HD cost less than my Pioneer KEH9191 Supertuner/cassette that I bought in the mid 80's.

All Ibiquity has to do is get IBOC in to OEM car installs, or get it mandated like HDTV. Look at how many people are driving around with AM stereo! HD offers a lot more than AM Stereo. Put up some good content and people will buy it.

This issue would, for the time being at least, be money. Top-flight morning shows don't come free, and until there's enough penetration on HD, using those signals for clearing shows that require hefty cash payments probably won't happen. Putting talent under contract from old formats on HD to burn off contracts, fine, but nothing else. IMHO.

I'm sure that you're right about that. Just wishful thinking on my part.
