free fm off the air

It could be that some of the major SF stations, still don't have a back up generator or transmitter, I remember Don Bleu ragging on corporate a few years back when K101 was off the air for like a day or something, and at the time evergreen or chancellor media didn't wanna invest in the miracle of aux power.

sidebar: It would take alot for sat. radio to go down, unless some space junk crashed into 1 of the multiple satellites and knocked the signal off the air.

You keep trying to hijack threads to promote satellite radio and you won't be on the board long enough to see a satellite get knocked off the air.<P ID="signature">______________

> Uh, no. KIOI has had back up generator power at San Bruno for years, and there hasn't been any time within the last 7 or 8 years that the station was off because of a power failure.

You see, that’s the problem with this board... When you make untrue accusations about a station you can count on being called on it.

This board is FILLED with GM's, PD's, CE's and other 2 letter abbreviations, that will happily correct you when you've misspoken.

My guess, I could be entirely wrong, is that Free-FM already has aux power. It’s up on Mt. Beacon and it shares space with KISQ and KLLC. Not sure who owns the facility or if they share aux power but you can rest assured that IF they don’t have one, they’ll get on (or they were having one installed at 3:21am).

There are certain things that require a station to be off the air, for which reason they usually pick some time in overnights to do them. Some antenna work, combiner work, switcher work and AC switchover work can not be done without going down, unless the station has tow independent sites, which is pretty uncommon.
