I would love to see that happen. You know I think its only a matter of time before talk moves to FM in droves. Its like Top 40 that was only on the AM in the 50-60;s, eventually moved to FM. I would love to see this happen with the Zone

I would also like to see this happen to the Zone. Any thing could help them they went down hill when Kevin Mannion left. I would like to see the Zone go to Hot Talk

Even have a mixture of hot talk sounding political talk and comedy radio and news radio. It dosen't have to be where every show sounds the same, mix it up a bit. Do something original, I am sure once people here bout it they will tune in.

FM radio is for music. AM radio is for talk. FM has better sound quality. As long as you can hear and understand what the person is saying, AM radio should be good enough. Talk would be a waste of FM airwaves. Talk should just stay on AM where it belongs and music should stay on FM where it belongs. Most FM stations have too many talk shows where they talk about pointless things.

I enjoy Talk and Music about the same and I do think talk has a place on FM. If you would have asked me two years ago I would have been lock step with you on the whole talk belongs on am but after working at a few talk stations I enjoy it, it's very informative and people can learn alot from it I know I have. Also I think talk listeners should beable to enjoy the sound quality of an fm station.
Edited by vela on 10/21/05 07:43 AM.

I do think talk has a place on FM.

You bet it does. There are so many puny night time AM directional signals in the Metropolis, their signals barely cover the surrounding 25 mile radius.
On the other hand, there are plenty of full power FM signals that can effectively cover the entire Metropolis and more. If talk is what sells then you will see more of it on FM in the future.

While agree that talk should just stay on the AM due to the quality, let's answer one question:

How many ad units can you fit in a music format before you alienate that audience? How many can you fit in a talk format?

Answer: About twice as many. And with no AM's in the market, the only place to go is on the FM. As always folks, it boils down to what can (potentially) bring in the most $$$$. Plus, you can also add in play for pay with talk. It could be very lucrative.
