Free FM~The Obvious NOT to do~

Okay so I've read a ton of postings, some I agree. Others? What are some of you smart guys thinking? K&R on TALK? My Lord have you lost all of your minds? Fact is they both do well in a CHR, music for kids format, not talk. No way no how. Kid messed up without thinking before he spoke. THERE is a big difference in a good broadcaster. EDUCATION! Not that radio people are known for going to years of college, You have to know how to handle TOPICS that are not created for kids..."KID", pardon the pun.

I would really hate to see if something terrible happened to us like 911 and rely on THAT show...shows like his would flip to the "CBS" button and let the pro's handle it. Same goes for Pratt, Holmberg, and Chuck Powell. All are used to doing "BIT" radio with absolutly zero connection to handle great talk radio that FREE FM is looking for....TALK...intelligent, connection 24/7 locally and nationally. There are many of us that would love to see our AZ Free FM have a more local base talent that knows this city and the people in it. Pat McMan, if he was about 50 instead of his age now. Or Bruce Kelly, whom is younger & basically has ALWAYS talked. (lol) sorry Bruce, it's a compliment. I mean Tim & Willy WAY before Pratt, I would pick to do talk as well.

I cannot believe I even saw Tracy Lee's name mentioned..Bless her heart but come on! Now if it was the Bone Mama,(with her real name) or Lu Valentino, I could understand, Phoenix lost 2 good female talents with intelligence. Now that's if it was 2 females. Too bad Beth can't drop Bill and do talk with Tara from TV3. Anyhow, what I'm trying to say is IT'S OUR CITY! I don't want to hear ALL out of towners talking about our city, which sadly they won't because THEY DON'T live here & won't broadcast from here.

Which brings me to other stations this MAY put a bruise on...Has KDKB given any thought or KSLX, or KUPD for that matter? All am shows, except maybe for Holmberg, will get KILLED even more with FREE FM. Rumor has it that Peterson wants to move to mornings (BAD BAD MOVE)on KDKB. And well KSLX I stopped listening to, they need a SPIKE, WAKE UP, you're all on valium. 2006 is going to be such a year for change and I am really excited to see what station is going to be the first with balls to NOT sit back and be lazy...After living here half my life, I wishwe had something to show off to other cities radio wise.

Great post! I do have to disagree with you though. From what I got from your post, you say these people would succeed on Free FM:
Pat McMann
The Bone Mama
Lou Valentino
Beth and Tara Hitchcock
Tim and Willy
Bruce Kelly (I agree with you on this one)

And you think these guys would fail on Free FM:
Pratt
K&R
Chuck Powell

I'm sorry but my lists are the exact opposite.

Pratt is Phoenix. He would do a great job on Free FM and his listeners would follow him just like they have from Rock to Alternative to Country. The guy is a great talent and will be remembered for a long time after he's gone.

Kid and Ruben have come a long way. They played a couple of songs an hour on KISS. September 11th they shined. Stayed on the air all day long and handled the situation as good as anybody in town and better than most. Their show is full of topics and they could very well be the "next generation" of talk radio. If they wanted to.

Chuck Powell is a great story teller. I don't know how high profile I'd make him but he'd definately be a part of a talk station aimed at 18-34's.

Bruce Kelly would be a great hire. He knows and loves Phoenix. His show was very talk oriented and if you know Bruce, he's got an opinion about everything.

If you were to put together a Free FM type station. USING ONLY LOCAL TALENT. What would your lineup be?

Mine?

6a - 10a Bruce Kelly
10a - 2p Kid and Ruben
2p - 6p Dave Pratt
6p - 10p Gambo and Ash
10p - 12m Chuck Powell
12m - 6a Replays of previous days shows/hosts

Rock:
That would mean that 101.5 will do better without Stern than with him. Do you really believe that?

You've obviously been smoking something. Every am show in PHX will do at least slightly better with Stern gone. The ones that stand to make the most out of this are Chuck Powell on the Edge and Holmberg on KUPD. Both of these are heavy on the comedy, like Stern's show was. But while Holmberg is more gutter humor like Stern, Chuck is more high-brow comedy. A fresh contrast to what Stern was all about.

I think you're dead wrong to think Carolla will do very well. I don't see him lasting very long at all. He isn't funny without Kimmel, and that's just fact.
