FREE FM

Imagine this CBS Hires Joel Salkowitz to format a dance CHR Radio on the original ktu frequency. That would be slamming.

O&A isn't Gone!!

YEAH! O and A AREN'T gone, either. ::) Salkowitz will not be brought in for anything, dance is dead in NY (on radio anyway) as you can see from KTU's flip and Mix's flip That stick will always be a male targeted format, always.

Who even said they were going to flip in the first place? this is all nothing more than speculation.

A flip? I don't think CBS Radio even wants to go in that direction right now. I have heard for months that they want to do away with the FREE FM branding on the stations, but nothing about a flip of all of them. If they do flip, it probably won't happen to all of the FREE FM branded stations until probably this time next year.

Remember though that everyone who championed the Free fm concept is now out of the picture either voluntarily or they were let go so Dan Mason the new chief cannot be happy about inheriting a company that had abandoned a bunch of stations with market heritage, Krock in NY, YSP, CKG Chicago ( true they were already doing a lot of talking but to re-brand them "Free fm?) in Philly, for this un-proven format which is not working in any of the markets that it has been implemented in. SO a flip is entirely possible but people on this board are talking about it as if someone had actually acknowledged it to be a certainty.

So Opie and Anthony are currently on the air at FREE FM? Will they be on tomorrow? There was word that they were fired. Or did they just lose the XM show?

I actually think Philly has the better FREE-FM line-up right now compared to New York.

We have Opie and Anthony as well as Barsky, who has done a good job in my opinion. Also, Kidd Chris in the afternoons is also very good.

O&A are still on FreeFm. They were suspended from XM for 30 days. It has been posted on a few O&A forums that they are really fired from XM.

The NY FreeFm is a total mess and nothing is happening at all with the ratings. The station is doing a 1.3 12+ and has fallen big time from the Stern days. O&A have a strong following, but it seems not to be helping with the ratings. They fire the Dog House over something, well for nothing. And now they bring in talent that was fired from market 9. Nice move CBS......Looks like everyone is just counting the days until they flip this mess. With SF, they have flipped 4 free's to date.

"suspension" was 30 days from XM, the theory is that they will not return to the XM air after the "suspension" or at least that is what the O and A siccophant (sp) sites are saying.

This is what it says on the xm radio website

Opie & Anthony Update

As you know, XM suspended Opie & Anthony and ceased all broadcast of The Opie & Anthony Show on The Virus - XM 202 for 30 days, effective May 15, 2007.

The O&A Show will return at its regularly scheduled time on June 15th, 2007.

In the meantime, Ron & Fez will continue to air in place of The O&A Show on XM 202.

And that's from the Xm Offical Website and not from wackbag and other fourms.

And from WFAN it said Imus suspended.......well then fired...

From WFNY it said JV and Elvis suspended....well then fired.....

WHile that is the XM statement this is O and A that you're dealing with, total prima donna's who just might not WANT to come back since their egos were so caved in by this suspension and their perception that XM did not support them. I would not be at all surprised if they opt not to continue their XM show since they're back on Fm and the only reason they had to go to XM was that no one else would hire them. I agree 30 days is pretty excessive in that if they're going to go that route they should have just fired them especially when one considers that the suspension supposedly was not even as a result of the comments in question themselves but their disobeying the direct instructions of Xm management not to discuss it on CBS. My guess is it was indirectly about the Condi etc comments since they were getting so much heat for their having made those comments and then XM subsequently not doing anything about it and just like CBS sitting around and watching the controversy grow without being pro-active. It seems the trend now that these corproate guys just stick their heads in the sand and hope that things go away, but given the public being more media savvy than ever, the internet, the blogosphere and on and on, I dont know what it will take for these guys to understand that talent slip ups do not just go away. They only grow larger in terms of their impact beccause of the Blogs, the web, the public looking for slip ups. Talk about people who are out of touch.

Which 4? Rebranding WCKG back to its old name doesn't count... it's still the same programming, sans Leykis. And in SF, yes, the frequency flipped, but unlike most flips, the programming didn't go away, it just moved. You'd think with 1 new and one upgraded AM talker since Leykis, et al, were last on 1550, that if the "Free FM" programming was so bad, CBS would have kept 1550/SF podcasting. Or gone back to whoring out the time.
