Lightning 100 has been very heavily promoting their latest free live music venture, this one called "Live on the Green." What I wonder is how long will it be before Live on the Green goes the way of Lightning 100's previous live music ventures, like Dancin' in the District and Uptown Mix? Those concert series were free at first, but eventually they had to start charging admission to cover the cost of putting on the shows. Granted, the charge was nominal, but I can't help but wonder if part of that was just to "keep out the riffraff." (Dancin' in the District had issues with underage drinking, but Uptown Mix was adult only.)
This latest series will be free only as long as the bands can play for free, and the sound engineers and other technical staff also donate their time and services. Even so, someone must still pay NES for the electricity! So how long will this arrangement last this time, and how long will it be free? (I question them starting this in September, but maybe they did so intentionally, to reduce the likelihood of teenagers showing up, since school is back in session.)
