Free XM on AOL Radio going bye-bye

And crummy CBS commercial radio will take it's place. I would pay to have XM's online service, but they stream at only 64kbps, which is extremely poor quality compared to the AOL stream. Sirius has high quality why not XM?
It's too bad because I loved listening the The Blend, The Heart, 80s on 8, and BPM. I cant bear low bitrates, so if XM wants to woo in new customers they should have higher bitrates comparable to sirius.

AOL Teams Up With CBS Radio Stations to Provide Music, Local News and Sports Programming

NEW YORK -- CBS Radio is teaming up with AOL to provide online streams from all 140 of its stations to AOL's online radio service.
The deal announced Friday will bring local news, sports and music programming from big CBS stations to AOL, including WFAN-AM and 1010 WINS in New York.

I say "Good Riddens AOL". Make all those 'freeloaders' pay for HQ XM service like the rest of us - maybe XM will lose less money. As always, paying customers should get XM online for free.
It would be worth several of us asking if a higher bit XM Online will be available (perhaps at a premium)?

I agree, like I said I'd rather pay for a high quality stream. Sirius seems to have a very good idea with SIR, I wish XM would do the same.

Will I guess I have to sign up now to listen to Casey Kasem's AT40, On the other hand
XM is not worth the full price to pay with the music interrupted with the DJ Chatter, tv show snipits of the time and XM jingles mix all together.dump all that and save on production cost and XM at $2.99 can be done alltogther.

I see one plus of aol radio,if WCBS News 880 is on it , I can tune in at work.

damn! I have a sub with XM and listen online via aol. Sadly but true, XM sounds better online then it does in my car and truck.

then listen through XM's website or download one of the third party players

TO: Shane of Texas--you mentioned you subscribe to XM and listen from AOL. You DO know you can create an account on XMradio.com and listen directly from XM's website?

They did improve the reliability of XMRO. When they first offered it with a subscription all the stations keep doing were buffering and pausing so I subscribed to AOL to listen to XM Radio Stations online. When AOL got stupid and added commercials for people who were paying for AOL, (the free AOL Radio always had commercials) I switched it to free. Those stupid Gecko and eHarmony ads were annoying and I was not paying $10 a month to hear ads. I instead now just listen to AOL Radio on AOL's Canada site radio.aol.ca. The music there is commercial free. I listen to the XMRO stations through the Napster client when I am not near my radio.

I subscribe to XM as well and can listen online via XMRO, but as others have already said, I don't like the fact that they're bitrate is a measely 64kbps. When I'm at home, I usually listen through Directv or to the free aol feeds through winamp. Those are 64kbps as well, but they use the superior aac+ format. Guess those will go bye-bye as well.
