free103point9: What's all this, then?

Quoting:

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently awarded free103point9 a license for a 3,300-watt non-commercial FM radio station on 90.7-FM. The award was the result of a rare opportunity last fall when the FCC opened a week-long window for nonprofit groups to apply for full-power radio stations. The opportunity hadn’t occurred in nearly 20 years, but when it did free103point9 took advantage of it.

According to Roe, an online version of the station will be launched early next year, and will feature town meetings, high school sports championships, local performances, lectures, workshops, and a broad spectrum of creative radio or radio art programs. Roe expects the station to hit the radio waves in 2010.

Looks pretty hip but can they make a go of it, even as a nonprofit?

We are a non-profit arts organization that works with artists who use the airwaves somehow in their work. www.free103point9.org will tell you lots about it.

We are setting up a daytime community radio station, with DJs and live feeds from various local venues in the evenings, and radio art late nights and Saturdays.

We'd love to hear from folks in the area who want to help out, join in, lend advice.

We'd also love to hear from radio professionals with new/unique ideas about running community radio stations.
