FreeForm BCN HD3

I wonder why there is still no livestream yet from FreeForm BCN. They mention on the site they start streaming 'soon' but on the old webpage I saw this text also for months! It's a missing change for a station what had so much promotion over the last couple of days that there is no stream...a real bummer...

Maybe there is unvisible livestream yet? I like to know the URL. Or somebody can stream this unofficial on shoutcast.com for the time being when there is no official livestream?

I just scanned the dial on my one HD radio. As far as I can tell, Sam Kopper's "Freeform" BCN is on 100.7 HD2. And "The Rock of Boston" is on 98.5 HD2 (or HD3..)

Having a lot of trouble pulling in the 98.5 HD signal, can't get it to lock for more than a few seconds, but the HD stations on top of the Pru come in fine, as I'm a few miles north of the Pru.

freeform 'BCN is at WZLX HD3...currently...as for streaming, everything is in place, CBS simply has to throw the switch...

The streaming still sounded like a "we hope so" according to Sam Kopper yesterday.

For the Free FM to matter at all, they'll have to not only stream, but get live hosts. Radio Free Phoenix would be a great model, and shows you can do it on a shoestring. BCN could go a step further than them by playing a bigger range and having personality.

My guess, though, is that CBS is simply trying to hold onto the "brand name" of "WBCN" so nobody else can claim it. They'll park it, invest zero money in it, and if they need it someday, they'll bring it to life.

Free form BCN onWZLX-HD3 is in Mono. BCN on WBZ-FM HD2 is in stereo.
Finally got a lock on WBZ-AM 1030 on my Sony XDR-10 HDiPOD. What a difference. No brickwall cut off. No noise. Sounds like BUR analog in audio qulaity. Just wonder how long I will be able to keep lock.

CBS has done the same thing with the WHFS brand. WHFS is now the calls for an AM Talk station and HFS2 is on 94.7 WTGB HD2. It sounds good but it isn't WHFS.

Still no livestream from FreeForm BCN HD3. I still had the hope that they put it up with the 98.5 Sports Hub stream, but no luck...:-(

I think it will be streaming by the end of the month. Just a guess.

Mono, huh?

That would be like having a few "extra" channels on your Hi Def TV that are in black and white.

Those ads that say "AM sounds like FM, and FM sounds like a CD" are completely bogus. Misleads the consumer, though I suppose it doesn't matter because nobody cares (or even knows) about HD Radio.

As far as I know, all HD-3's are mono due to bandwidth limitations.

That's why some stations put non-musical spoken programming on their HD-3's.

The WBCN call letters don't like the snow and cold winters of Boston anymore, so they moved south to Charlotte.

CBS made sure that the call letters did not get out in the open market. The station in North Carolina is a CBS AM sports talk station.

The extended delays in starting our streaming has been and still IS very frustrating; but I was told by engineering just this past week that streaming SHOULD get under way by the end of this coming week. My fingers are crossed. As well, I sure hope that we'll soon get moved back to a full stereo high fidelity HD2 spot on one of the four HD2 channels CBS has in Boston. Finally, presently we have about 2000 songs in. We are heading for 6000! The average modern radio station has 1000 +/- a few. AND, we plan to get live DJs, with worthwhile stuff to say and talk about, on over the course of the next few months. In other words, I am working my butt off to "do the 21st Century version of what we were doing in the late 60s into the 80s," the musical diversity, the spirit, the soul, the attitude. Express yourself to everyone! - Sam Kopper
