Sounds like FreeFrom BCN (100.7 HD3) has a live jock on for the next 2 hours. I'm listening online and it sounds great!

I didn't get to listen today, but it's usually been Sam Kopper, who is director of the station, and was the original WBCN rock PD (1968 - mid-'70s)

I wonder if ever going to all live jocks, have to get a tape ready.......

'BCN HD is actually 'BZ HD2, right? Meanwhile, the "real" 'BCN now exists in Charlotte, NC. How does all of this work out regarding legal ID's? Wouldn't 'BCN in Charlotte have problems with the Boston outfit using their legal calls?

"WBCN" is actually WZLX 100.7-2, and WBCN in Charlotte is also owned by CBS, so there's no real issue there. There is (or should be) a "WZLX HD-2 Boston" legal once an hour on 100.7-2, and whatever they call themselves the rest of the hour isn't a legal ID anyway. It's no more confusing than WVEI in Worcester or WVEI-FM in Springfield being "WEEI."

There's actually 2 "WBCNs." The regular WBCN format is on 98.5-2, and "Freeform BCN" is on 100.7-3. WZLX HD2 is Radio Mojo with blues.

Actually, it's ALL pretty damn confusing.

Why isn't CBS pushing these HD stations more? They treated the end of WBCN on 104.1 like a funeral not a rebirth.

There are still so few people with HD radios that moving a format to a HD multicast channel (especially automated most of the time) can still hardly be perceived as a "rebirth" to most of the public - and despite its decline over its last decade or so, WBCN on 104.1 was a legend and an institution on Boston radio. There were brief mentions of the "Rock of Boston" music format moving to 98.5 HD2, but WBCN on 104.1 deserved a reverent sendoff for its heritage. However, I do agree that there should be more promotion of multicast channels, especially if they want people to purchase HD radios and listen to them. I own three HD radios, that's still three more than most of the public.
