Freg change question about Continental 815B transmitter

We are operating a 1991 vintage Continental 815B transmitter on 96.3. Need to change to 105.5. Is the change as simple as changing exciter frequency or would this unit require some internal component changes as well? Thanks

That's the nice thing about CE and Nautel. Both of them will actually HELP you on old stuff like that. Others starting with the letter H (for hell) don't know ya after about a decade.

A couple of weeks ago I called and asked a simple question about our HT5 and was basically told to go you-know-where because it was "unsupported".

I changed to BE because of this...hope they continue to be as helpful in the future...anybody else have comments on them?

BE, Continental and Nautel all make good products with different architectures. All also provide excellent support.
Which begs the question, why do people keep buying Harris products?

I'm trying to remember Art, the last 815B I worked on was in Tifton and that's been 20+ years ago but I think you may have to change some of the tuning plates in the cavity for a frequency change that big. Do you still have the manual for the rig? It should outline it there if you do.

I know in the non-comm world that a lot of Big H transmitters get bought because they are cheaper than the other major brands. The "lowest bid" a lot of times is Big H. They cut every corner then can on the rest of a turn-key project (antenna, line, etc.) to minimum spec to come in cheaper. Then, of course, their parts are really high. So in the end it costs more, but that's hard to prove. A decade or so down the road and you're stuck with something 'unsupported'. The shame of it all is their transmitters themselves (for the most part) aren't bad. It's just the overall company attitude and parts prices/availablity I don't care for one bit. It's just shameful that Contiental can't get more traction because they DO try to always take care of the customer. If I had to buy a tube rig today I'd fight hard to get a CE. Most of the stuff I have is in the solid-state power level though so my first choice (if I got my way) would certainly be Nautel.
