For those interested in classic TV from overseas:
You can watch years of French TV news online free of charge. INA, the state-owned body in charge of maintaining broadcasting archives in France, enables you to select any date between February 1976 and 2006 on its website and see that day's television news (from one of France's "big three" networks -- you don't get a choice) in QuickTime format.
Here is the link:
http://www.ina.fr/archivespourtous/?vue=jn
Important notes:
* Virtually all newscasts between February 1976 and 2006 are available.
* You can also watch newscasts from some days in 1973 and 1974.
* If you select a date between 1961 and 1969, you'll get a radio newscast instead.
* The site is French, so it's temperamental. Sometimes you may get a question mark instead of the video; if you refresh the page, you should be able to get it to work.
I wish every country had something like this!
