This makes some sense....

Bubba gets the 94.1 BIG signal, with hopefully an 80's based mainstream rock reporter (98 rock heritage that helped take down YNF) to target the other BIG signal at 102.5 and 98 rock musically

a re-position or tweek to WILD to classic hip hop and back to 98.7 , where there was no issue pulling the same numbers they have gotten on 94.1 (essentially i dont see thee benefit of that move for that format) so wont hurt to put it back

thats what id like to see anyway

I dont favor another talk station , dont think its likely……high cost and split of audience with 102.5. .....I dont think any show should or will be simulcast from ft myers either

What I've been saying. Makes sense to put him on 941 and put wild back on 987. This talk of him going to q105 makes no sense seeing their ratings

Rock isn't going to trend higher than what WLLD plays, at least right now or the foreseeable future. Maybe the "Bubba effect" might change that a bit, sure... But it wouldn't be a result of the overall format execution. For the 98.7/94.1 swap to be effective, Rock would have to be out of the picture.

WLLD is doing fine trends-wise, not sure about sales. But from the numbers alone, moving or blowing 94.1's format up for a BTLS/rock format would just make smaller slices of pie for shares involved, not a larger one. You'd have "94.1" 3.1, "WXTB" 3.5, and "WLLD" 98.7 would probably be 4.1 instead of 4.7-5.0 like right now at 94.1. (Not to mention, a bunch of confused/displaced WLLD listeners.)

And why make that move to begin with? Because 98.7's signal is cursed? Not exactly WLLD's fault, so why punish a performing station like WLLD in that sense, just in exchange for having another Rocker? Remember, Thunder's already back in the market (somewhat) with the translators playing classic rock, and is ready to start airing commercials any day now according to their sweepers. If the demographics make sense to swap 94.1/98.7 frequencies anyway, then fine.. Otherwise I have to disagree.

I'm with Byron on this one...

First let's look at 94.1's city-grade signal pattern (which reaches well into the urban areas of Hillsborough County) vs 98.7's (which is mostly Pinellas and water). WLLD on 94.1 simply makes a lot more sense demographically (which is why the switch to that frequency was made in the first place).

If Bubba wasn't part of the plan, I probably wouldn't consider a rock format of any type. Too many established players, too small a slice. (I'd probably give something not already in the market like Urban AC a shot). If rock is in the cards, it's probably best to go after Thunder and try to poach some Eagle listeners with Classic Rock.

Even then, the music is really secondary. I doubt we'll see much more than a 3 share from 98.7 (with higher numbers for Bubba's show). That may be all that Beasley is looking for, though. This may be a similar situation to the one Cox has with WSUN....find a niche and do the best you can with the signal limitations you've got.

I'm not ruling Hot Talk completely out, either..though to do it cost-effectively they'd need to utilize syndicated content or existing talent from other markets.
