Fresh 102.7 Joining 106.7 Lite-FM In The Christmas Spirit - But To What Extent?

It's a matter of when, not if, 106.7 Lite FM flips to all-Christmas, and it's a strong possibility it could happen by week's end, as they have flipped the all-holiday-hits switch prior to Thanksgiving in the last several years.

But David Hinckley notes that until then, 106.7 is offering listeners Internet streams of yuletide songs in different formats on their website via iHeartRadio. "Not to be outflanked," rival Fresh 102.7 also links to their own holiday hits stream on their website.

Say, you don't suppose that, once Lite goes all-Christmas, that Fresh would also -- nah... ::)

... and that is a given. We hear about how "good" all of CBS' FM stations are, too good to warrant flipping to a simulcast of any of their sister AM stations. And it would also make sense for Fresh to remain in its current format as an outlet for Humbugged Lite listeners.

The next week should be interesting.

The CBS AM news stations are superior to any FM stations. I could hear WCBS and WINS in Delaware, but FM News 101.9 faded out in Trenton.

S'sposedly, WLTW is entering winter wonderland this year with numbers less firm than last year. That might play a factor in any timing to Occupy Christmas this time.

Heck -- even WFME might beat them to the punch bowl, eh?

Eight shopping days to Black Friday, at any rate.

If Fresh 102.7 did flip to Christmas Music I don't see that hurting them. CBS has flipped their AC/Jazz station to Christmas Music in LA.

I'm hearing that Lite-FM is currently running liners saying Christmas is "coming soon." All bets are on tomorrow at 5 PM. I, however, have an inside bet on today at 5 PM.

I can't imagine the reaction if one of the big, corporate early-Noel stations started piping the stuff to Occupy Encampments round the clock. That has little chance of actually achieving good will among all in attendance. Chances are that it would be construed as blatant evidence of ongoing corporate greed.
